She has been a resident in the UK since the late 1990s.The Green Johann prefers a shady spot and has a slightly more varied diet, as she likes to be fed with a bit of garden waste too! Johanna is a generous soul, as within just a few months this 'Hot Composter' produces nutrient rich compost, which can be spread on the rest of the garden! Johanna enjoyed her UK debut in 2008. The Green Cone and Green Johanna are brought together by UK manufacturer and distributor Great Green Systems Limited, providing customers all over the world with a choice of how to dispose of their food waste. Here’s a superb worm farm tip courtesy of and which we just had to share! 🙂🪱

Shredded paper works a treat as a carbon layer and your worms will still love it. If you want to take it up a notch, peat moss makes incredible bedding too.

The key is keeping that balance of carbon and moisture so your worms stay happy and active all winter long.

The secret to the BEST compost? Layers, baby!

Think of your compost tumbler like a lasagne — and yes we’re serious. 🤌

Layer your leaves (browns) with your kitchen scraps (greens) and watch the magic happen inside your tumbler!

Browns + Greens = the ultimate compost combo.
