Whitelock’s Ale House

Whitelock’s Ale House Legendary Leeds pub est. 1715. Described by John Betjeman as "the very heart of Leeds" Whitelock's is the oldest pub in Leeds.
(1823)

Originally opened as The Turk's Head in 1715, it was renamed in the 1880s by then owner John Lupton Whitelock as Whitelock's First City Luncheon Bar. Under new ownership since May 2012, we have preserved the rich history and charm that has always been the cornerstone of Whitelock’s, while infusing it with new life and and our passion for great service, food and drink. We serve a wide selection of

real ale and craft beers – many from Yorkshire breweries – alongside a menu of fresh, home-cooked and locally sourced food available seven days a week.

Imagine walking into Whitelock's a century ago...

The first thing you'd noticed wasn't the beer... It was the ham hanging above the bar.

They were carved to order and served throughout the day for hungry customers, but they also made a statement. When pubs competed for custom, hanging whole cured hams was a was a pretty good sign you'd come to the right place for lunch.

The hams have gone, but we still take just as much pride in what sits behind the bar.

Pint of the week... Pale Ale.

A 4.0% session pale that's light, refreshing and every bit as good on the fourth pint as it is on the first.

It's on the guest taps now, come and enjoy while it lasts!

It's easy to think of pub food as something hearty, but when the weather's this good, sometimes all you really fancy is something light.

Our Tenderstem, walnut & radicchio salad combines grilled Tenderstem, candied walnuts, blue cheese and mustard dressing, and it's become a bit of a favourite in the sunshine.

Add a cold drink and a gentle summer breeze, and you're pretty much sorted!
