This new washed Rwandan lot is a bit of a celebration of the Red Bourbon varietal - one that we’re particularly fond of here at Echelon HQ.

From the Gaseke washing station, this coffee delivers blackberry fruit notes with some moreish malic acidity and a raisin-like sweetness in the finish.

Gaseke is a community hub for more than 500 growers. Modernised in 2016, it improves consistency, access to market, and income for farmers who depend on it.

Coffee is central to Nyamagabe’s post-genocide recovery: it builds stability, employment, and long-term opportunity. Profit-sharing models in the region reinforce fair pay and strengthen local governance, keeping value in the community.

It feels like a while since we had a classic, juicy washed Kenyan coffee in our range. Well that intermission in service has well and truly come to an end as we welcome this super AA size grade (BIG beans) lot from the Kii washing station to LS7.

Kii washing station in Kiringaya County is one of three factories that make up Rung’eto Farmers Cooperative Society. They have an outstanding reputation for producing the very best Kenyan fully washed coffees, processing the coffee of over 800 local smallholder farmers.

Upon arrival, the coffee cherries are pulped and graded by density, then fermented, washed and cleaned once more to remove all mucilage. This process ensures a coffee with plenty of clarity and that classic bright acidity we know and love in Kenyan coffees. These vibrant citrus notes are beautifully balanced by a full, satisfying body, making it a standout cup that reflects both the land and the care of the people who grow it.

💫NEW ESPRESSO FOR YOU💫

For the latest edition of Esprechelon we wanted to do something celebratory and use the opportunity to spotlight two incredible female producers from Peru’s northern Cajamarca region. Ismeria and Merly León are coffee-growing sisters from the mountains of Callayuc, both of whom produce exceptional coffees on their small farms. For the second part of this double-release, we have a delicious coffee from Merly.

Her farm, La Palta, is located in Santa Teresa de Callayuc in Cutervo, Cajamarca. Named after an avocado tree growing on the property, La Palta symbolizes the natural richness of the area.

In the cup we’re tasting sweet apricot alongside raspberry and cola 🥤

If there’s one thing we can’t abide here at Echelon HQ it’s not having a delicious Ethiopian coffee as part of our range.

Happily, that egregious scenario has been neatly avoided by the arrival of this spectacular natural lot from the Lalesa washing station in Guji.

The natural processing delivers a relatively mellow acidity that pairs perfectly with the chocolate notes to give us a fantastically versatile coffee that can be used for all brew methods.

🎈ESPRECHELON IS 10!🎈

For the tenth edition of Esprechelon we wanted to do something celebratory and use the opportunity to spotlight two incredible female producers from Peru’s northern Cajamarca region. Ismeria and Merly León are coffee-growing sisters from the mountains of Callayuc, both of whom produce exceptional coffees on their small farms. For the first of this double-release, we have a superb lot from Ismeria.

Brewed as espresso we’re getting crisp red apple with sweet blackberry and yuzu (whozu?) yuzu, yes yuzu.

Head over to the www to find out more ✨

Here at Echelon HQ consistency is a BIG DEAL.

To make sure your brews are as delicious as possible, we hand-sort every single batch after it has been roasted to remove any under-ripe, yellow beans that made it past the sorting process at origin, or anything else that shouldn’t go into your grinder.

It’s a time-consuming endeavour but we think it’s absolutely worth the effort to know that the coffee you get through your letterbox has is at its absolute best.

Two new coffees have just arrived in LS7, and both are unusual and delicious varietals that might be new to you (they were to us!).

From Costa Rica 🇨🇷 we have a very refined, washed lot of the Esperanza varietal - a Caturra / Ethiopia 531 hybrid known for high quality and disease resistance that has been grown and processed at the superb Aquiares Estate in Turrialba.

From Peru 🇵🇪 we have a distinctive washed lot of the Marshell varietal - an interesting new varietal discovered in 2016 in the San Ignacio region. A Bourbon-type strain with uncertain origins, it may be a deliberate hybrid that escaped cultivation, or a spontaneous mutation. This lot was grown and processed by Pedro Padilla on his farm - Finca El Limón - in the La Coipa district of Cajamarca.

Both of these coffees really stood out for us on the cupping table and we’re grateful to be able to work with such forward-thinking, innovative producers to bring them to you!

📯 SPECHELON II is here! 📯

Our second Spechelon coffee is a natural proceess, anaerobically-fermented lot processed at the renowned Koke Shalaye station in Ethiopia’s famed Yirgacheffe district.

Over a number of years, the region has developed a distinguished reputation for fine coffees, producing some of the most sought-after lots in world.

The station is situated at 1,973m and processes cherries from 1,890 local smallholder farmers from kebeles (villages) of Gedeo and Koke.

The Fetay River runs through the region, providing a vital water source for both the village and coffee cultivation. Farmers in Koke practice a traditional form of agriculture known as “garden coffee,” growing coffee trees among other crops in their backyards.

Though predominantly known for its exquisite washed coffees, Yirgacheffe also produces a smaller selection of sundried lots such as this one.

This lot underwent natural processing with a 48 hour anaerobic cherry fermentation prior to drying. This processing draws out wonderfully distinctive tropical fruit and floral notes. Expect a rich, juicy acidity balanced by ripe mango sweetness.

Hang on a minute…

There’s ANOTHER new coffee at the roastery we need to tell you about. And not just any old lot either. We’re talking an anoxic fermentation, natural process pink bourbon (😋) from El Pedregal’s very own Juan Camilo Castiblanco.

The innovative anoxic water pillow method used during the fermentation period for this coffee lends it a really refined and complex, almost champagne-like quality alongside blackcurrant liqueur. Thanks to our erstwhile importer partners .coffee for helping us with this one.
