🎗️ World Su***de Prevention Day
Many of us have experienced suicidal thoughts, attempted to take our own lives, supported somebody who was struggling, or tragically lost someone to su***de.
I know personally that I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of real, genuine friends, people who listened without judgement, stayed present and helped me through moments when I couldn’t see a way forward.
Su***de is incredibly serious, yet it still isn’t discussed enough.
Please check on the people you love, and don’t always accept “Yes, I’m fine” as the end of the conversation. Ask again. Listen carefully and pay attention to changes in their behaviour.
Have they become withdrawn? Has their personality or mood suddenly changed? Do they seem hopeless, overwhelmed or unlike themselves? Are they giving possessions away or saying goodbye? Sometimes a person’s actions show that they’re struggling, even when their words say they’re okay.
Mental health affects every single one of us. Difficult relationships, toxic environments and feeling emotionally unsupported can leave people overwhelmed, isolated and unable to see a way forward.
Please reach out to someone safe and trustworthy, whether that’s a genuine friend, a family member, a mental-health professional or a crisis-support service. You don’t have to carry everything alone.
The feeling is temporary.
It’s okay to talk.
You are worthy.
You matter.
You are not alone.
Please check on your loved ones. Listen. Stay. Support.
One honest conversation could save a life. 💛
