Traditional English pub serving homemade food and real ales. In the summer you can enjoy a cold drink in the picturesque beer garden or in winter cosy up next to the roaring open fires. The Chequers Inn is truly one of England's old traditional Inns with an history that can be traced back to 1540. Toby jugs and all manner of antiques adorn walls and ceilings in this busy olde-worlde environment, with its low beams and cosy alcoves, or you may wish to sit on the terrace amongst the hanging baskets and flowers. Serving ales such as Timothy Taylors Landlord, Theakstons Best and Dark Smooth, Ledsham Sessions (by the Brown Cow Brewery), John Smiths and Leeds Best. Wines by the glass include Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Merlot and a comprehensive wine list. Food served includes snacks and sandwiches, starters main courses, desserts and coffees- all made on the premises by chef David Siddall. Food served Monday-Saturday 12noon-9pm and 12noon-6pm Sundays. We also have a separate restaurant and marquee where we can offer weddings, functions and business meetings/lunches- please email or call Chris to book or enquire.

We love nothing more than putting on a good old-fashioned pub spread!

From generous sharing platters and beautiful cuts of steak to hearty homemade pies and trays of delicious desserts, we’re all about proper, traditional pub food, made with care and served in abundance. ❤️

One of the best things about being an independent pub is that we’re not tied to set menus or one-size-fits-all buffet packages.

We can make your buffet your own!

Whether you’ve got a family celebration, birthday, special occasion or just fancy getting everyone together over some fantastic food, we’re always happy to hear your ideas.

There’s been plenty happening in our little kitchen lately, with some lovely new dishes making their way onto the menu.

Seasonal ingredients, good honest cooking and a few fresh ideas alongside the familiar favourites. Just the sort of food we love serving here at The Chequers.

A Little Notice from The Chequers Inn

We will be closed on Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th October while essential work takes place to replace some of our bay windows.

This is a significant job, and we’re taking advantage of the relatively dry weather to get it completed before winter sets in.

The Chequers Inn is looking for a reliable, hard-working person to join our kitchen team.

This is a great first job for someone looking to earn some money and gain experience in a professional kitchen producing quality modern food from scratch — especially if you’re interested in a future in hospitality, catering or becoming a chef.

What we offer:
• Afternoon & evening shifts available
• Weekend work – weekend availability is essential
• Evening shifts usually finish around 10pm
• National Minimum Wage
• Share of staff tips
• Staff food provided on shifts over 6 hours
• Friendly, professional kitchen with the opportunity to learn

No experience necessary — attitude, reliability and punctuality are what matter to us.

The seasons are changing so our menu changes with them.

Our new Autumn & Winter menu has arrived, bringing with it the richer, more comforting flavours of the months ahead — new dishes shaped by the season, alongside the kind of pub classics that always have a place at the table.

As ever, provenance matters to us. We work with trusted suppliers and source locally wherever we can, letting good British produce and the seasons guide what comes out of our kitchen.

Come in, settle by the fire and discover what’s new. Our daily specials are updated each morning to truly make the best of availability, operating alongside our house menu they offer something for all tastes.

And just like that, the last Bank Holiday of the summer is done… ☀️🍻

A few photos of some of the lovely food that came out of our little kitchen over the weekend.

A massive thank you to everyone who came down, ate, drank and spent part of their Bank Holiday with us. It was great to see so many familiar faces — and plenty of new ones too. ❤️

A little reminder that our kitchen (and our team!) is small, so there’s only so much we can do at once. If you’re hoping to eat with us, particularly at weekends, please do book ahead where you can. It really helps us make sure we can look after everyone properly.

It feels like we’re starting to say goodbye to summer now… but we’re not too sad about it. 🍂

There’s something rather nice about what comes next — cooler evenings, changing menus, seasonal produce, fires lit again and plenty more happening at The Chequers.

Thanks for a cracking summer Bank Holiday.

Rounding out another week of scorchers with a slightly breezier Sunday lunch! 🥵🪭🌤️Top work from the chefs as standard and we're straight into another busy week, we want as many of you to join us as possible so please book ahead for cosier days inside with the predicted change in weather! In other news, thanks to some tech-tinkering by the chief of the chequers elves, our website is now working correctly, so while we're aware it's by now mythical 'under construction' message was incredibly frustrating, you can now see menus and reservations and hopefully some pictures and further content once the tinkering is complete!
