Milda Batutiene is from Lithuania, where she studied classical music as a child. Having moved to the UK nearly 20 years ago, she put music aside for a while, until finding new friends in the Warwickshire open mic scene led her back to singing. The newly found passion for music inspired her to pick up piano again and also start writing her own songs. Milda finds inspiration from various styles - folk, blues, rock & jazz, which is reflected in her music. With crystal clear highs and soulful lows Milda’s vocal performance is captivating whether accompanied by soft finger style guitar or crunchy piano harmony.

Randall and Lincoln have been writing and collaborating since first crossing paths at the Royal Albert Hall in 2008. The Randall Breneman Band come together for great songs, good hangs and the simple joy of playing music together.

The Foehn Effect Friday 18 September at 20:00

The Foehn Effect is a contemporary folk act from Aberystwyth, Wales. Inspired by the music of Leonard Cohen, Simon & Garfunkel, and contemporary folk artists The Paper Kites and Gregory Alan Isakov.

Their second studio album, “The Mountain Road Home”, was released October 2024. The group is currently recording new music, and playing live at music venues and festivals around the UK.

Gren Bartley is a UK singer-songwriter and guitarist working somewhere between cinematic folk, intimate acoustic songwriting and finely detailed guitar work. Across a run of acclaimed releases, he has built a reputation for records that are atmospheric, melodic and unmistakably his own.

His 2015 album Magnificent Creatures (★★★★★ R2 Magazine), produced by Gavin Monaghan, received outstanding reviews and helped take his music to festivals and venues across the UK and beyond. In 2019 he released Quiet (★★★★★ Northern Sky Magazine), a more stripped-back collection drawing on folk, world music and bottleneck slide guitar, which earned further critical praise.

Kevin Mott Renton Remembered Sunday 20 September at 16:00

Kevin Mott Renton, who died on 7 May last year, ran the idiosyncratic Renton’s Records music shop on High Street in Leamington from the late 1960s to the mid-80s. The store had been passed to him by his stepfather, Arthur Renton, who had run it along traditional lines. But Kevin’s interests in jazz, world music, folk and obscure records and instruments from around the globe gave the business a new character, including having an aviary in the middle of the shop. Kevin also produced his own hand-drawn publicity leaflets and posters.

Kevin became interested in instruments from around the world, and made versions of them using scrap materials, which he showed off in the window. When the business closed in 1984, he switched to making a living by travelling around schools, teaching children to make instruments out of recycled items. His reputation in that field was enhanced by two appearances on the BBC’s Blue Peter, in 1988 and 1989.

Chris Gibbons grew up in the London blues boom of the late 60s and, having turned down Ian Fraser ( Free ) for his bass player, he formed a band with members of American blues man Freddie King’s backing group including Lou Martin (later Rory Gallagher) and was offered a record deal, first recording with the Bee Gees arranger and orchestra at London’s Olympic studios, then produced by Micky Jones (Foreigner) at Island studios with Gary Wright (Spooky Tooth, George Harrison and Dreamweaver).

Tom Young has been a student of the blues since first hearing the sounds of John Lee Ho**er and Howlin Wolf 30 years ago. Since then his studies have taken him from Chicago-style electric sounds, to Piedmont fingerpicking, Mississippi hill country and Delta slide. Playing lesser known songs from the giants of the genre, along with original compositions, Tom strives for authenticity in sound and spirit, while honouring the culture and history of this great art form.

Tom is well known at Southbound as part of Two Piece Blues.
