Thank you all for your kind words, they mean a lot believe me. It's been a fight just to keep the door open for several years, and the fight has took its toll.

It gets to a point when asking people to spend £6 + on a pint of beer, to enjoy after a hard day's graft, or just as a treat on a special occasion, where I can no longer look people in the eye anymore. The price we charge is the price needed just to stay open, not to make money, and increasing the price is no longer an option for me.

I thought I'd just share this little snippet of what we face as a small business for some context.

This is one month's electricity bill, split into charges.

Of the £880 total, £200 of it is a standing charges, Climate levies and the latest government idea that small business should pay the same as big business when it comes to renewing the national grid. The latter of the charges is set to double next year, and triple the year after.

Then there's 20% VAT added on top of that......

Add this onto new recycling laws and taxes, beer duty increases, minimum wage rises, NIC rises, the list is endless. Then, every 3 months, they ask for another 20% of what you've taken.....

A MESSAGE TO ALL OF OUR CUSTOMERS....

Earlier this year, after a few morons decided to spread absolute nonsense about us leaving in June, I stated that we were in discussion with the brewery over the lease of the pub as it was coming to the end of its life. Back then I said if there was any news regarding the pub, you would read about it here first. Well here it is.....

Having had what I believed to be a positive meeting initially, unfortunately the deal that has been offered with the new lease didn't transpire into anything other than a rent increase and a carry on as you are....having asked for a bit of help with my multi billion pound business partner, the answers have all pointed to a no, you're on your own.

Now, I could sit here and blame the brewery for not helping, blame the government for its endless taxes on small business, blame people's drinking habits which changed massively after covid. But I won't...

Having been here for 15 years, and having met some amazing people who have been supporting the pub for generations, it is to those I announce we will be leaving the pub after Christmas. We feel it's the right time for us as a family to leave an industry which has been part of my life since I was just 3 years old. In that time I've witnessed the ups, the downs, the lot, and I can honestly say this is the hardest time hospitality has ever had.

The pub will continue to be open until the new year, and any bookings made between then and now will 100% be absolutely fine. We will hopefully be publishing our Christmas day lunch menu next month as usual.

So again, a thank you to our loyal customers over the years, and thank you for the great memories we will be leaving behind. 🍻

The beer garden is open for drinks from open til close, and you can dine outside if alfresco is your thing.

We have plenty of tables left for lunch this week. Perfect opportunity to come and give us a try. Nothing fancy, just a proper home cooked Sunday lunch as made by our own mother.

Again, we will not be showing the England game at 1am out of respect for our neighbours and surrounding area.

Take outs can be collected upto our closing time of 8pm for you to warm up yourselves back at home. If you want them hot, upto 3pm.

If the weather's nice and you're just looking for a drink, our beer garden is open all day. And yes, you can dine outside to if you want 😊 .

Lots of speculation that legislation will be passed tomorrow to allow all pubs to stay open until 5am Monday morning....

We will NOT be showing the Mexico game as we don't feel it's fair on the residents surrounding us, and to be honest, the numbers aren't there to warrant it.

Fingers crossed for a win and back to sensible times 🤞
