Free range, fresh and sourced close to home, our eggs come from Myers Farm at Tebay, Overton at Gloucester, and Corrie Mains at Cairn Lodge Services.

They've been laid by hens enjoying a considerably calmer morning routine than the rest of us. 🥚

We’ve always believed wool is worth more; in every sense. So we’re delighted to see British wool prices reaching their highest level in a decade; a welcome sign that this remarkable natural fibre is finally being valued more highly.

Our founder John Dunning often shares an old saying that captures the resourcefulness of the hill farmer: “It’s a bare hillside that he’ll cross over on which he won’t find something he’ll make use of.”

That same spirit inspired us to find a purposeful use for the wool from our own farm. What began with a tonne of virtually worthless fleece became a journey through British craft and manufacturing.

The wool is scoured in Bradford, transforming the raw fleece into soft, fluffy fibre. It then travels to Lightowlers at Brigg House Mills in Huddersfield, where it is spun into yarn and dyed in colours inspired by the Cumbrian fells on which our sheep graze. Finally, it travels to Scotland, where Caledonian sock makers turn it into beautifully crafted Westmorland socks.
Why go to so much trouble for a pair of socks? Because wool matters. Craft matters. And valuing everything our farm produces matters too.

Across our sites, we've made sure there's no wrong answer. Thoughtfully roasted coffee from producers we admire - Glen Lyon Coffee at Cairn Lodge, Bean & Dunne Coffee at Tebay, and Ethical Addictions Coffee Roasters at Gloucester Services.

For pastries, there's The Bertinet Bakery much-loved babka at Gloucester Services, and beautifully baked pastries from Freedom Bakery at Cairn Lodge.

What do our food choices mean for British farming? 🌾🥛

Every bottle of milk, loaf of bread and piece of cheese carries a story about how it was produced and who produced it.

Sausages are the cornerstone of a good breakfast.

Ours have long been made by our own butchers, to a unique recipe, but recently they've been working on something new.

After months of careful development, they've created a truly clean sausage recipe: no preservatives, no shortcuts, just meat and seasoning as it should be.

For now, these new sausages are being served exclusively at Gloucester Services Kitchens. Our ambition is to get them onto Farmshop shelves too, though their one-day shelf life is the honest price of doing things properly.

Welcoming new cattle, ewes and bees to our Cumbrian farm 🐑🐝

Situated between nearby villages Orton and Tebay, our farm is where the story of Westmorland began when John and Barbara Dunning opened Tebay Services in 1972 after the M6 motorway was built across a stretch of their farm land.

Hannah gives us a glimpse into summertime at Chapel Farm, where she lives with her husband, Sion, our Farm Manager, and their children, James and Olivia.

From welcoming another group of cattle from Paul and Nic Renison, who farm nearby in the Eden Valley, to reflecting on lambing season and planting a 60-hectare block of woodland pasture, it has been a busy summer. 🌳
