The UK fish and chip trade is currently facing an unprecedented supply crisis in obtaining cod, along with massive price hikes.
The main factors are; quota cuts and regulatory squeezes including a 44% cut in North Sea cod alone. The UK catches only a fraction of the cod demand, and relies heavily on imports from Norway, Iceland and the Faroe Islands. Because the global catch has dropped significantly to what it was just a few years ago competition for the fish is fierce driving the wholesale price rapidly upwards. The ban of course on Russian caught cod along with import tariffs since the invasion of Ukraine coupled with other global events has led to even greater instability.
This is unlikely to ease anytime soon with my supplier citing at least two years.
In the meantime our fish will either be Cod or Haddock still prepared to our usual high standards in our delicious light and crispy batter.
Haddock has a slightly sweeter and tastier flavour than cod and pairs extremely well with our light crispy batter and golden chips.

You can rest assured that we will only be using either premium Haddock or Cod and we will not be selling any farmed variety of fish.
