Put the kettle on. Watch the clouds drift by. Listen to the waves. Take the scenic route. Stay for an extra coffee. Order the pizza.

Life moves at a different pace up here on Sanday & we're not in a hurry to change that. ❤️

Here in Sanday we've got the legendary "Peedie Plane"! ✈️

The tiny Loganair Britten-Norman Islander hops between Kirkwall and Sanday, carrying just eight passengers and offering some of the best views in Scotland.

It's not just a flight – it's part of island life, connecting our community with the rest of Orkney while giving visitors a journey they'll never forget.

🌸 Nature's little surprises are appearing once again in our meadow. 🌸

The Northern Marsh Orchids are beginning to bloom, adding splashes of vibrant purple amongst the grasses and wildflowers around 59° North.

These beautiful native orchids thrive in the unspoilt landscapes of Sanday and are a reminder of just how special our island environment is. Every year they emerge quietly, transforming the meadow into a miniature wildlife haven for bees, butterflies & anyone who takes a moment to slow down and look a little closer.

If you're visiting us over the coming weeks, keep an eye out during your stroll around the meadow. Some of the most spectacular sights in Orkney aren't the grand landmarks - they're the tiny wonders growing right beneath our feet.

We’re proud to announce the installation of our new fence post. 🎉

Standing proudly in its allocated position, this remarkable piece of timber is expected to support fencing operations for many years to come.

Visitors are welcome to stop and admire its craftsmanship, although we kindly ask that you refrain from asking for selfies or autographs at this time.

We understand this development may overshadow many of today’s other events, but we’ll do our best to remain humble.

After many years in the corporate world, Clare has officially joined the family business here at 59° North full time, we couldn’t be more excited about this new chapter.

What started as a dream long before lockdown has grown into something far bigger than we ever imagined. From building the pizzeria and creating Orkney’s first dedicated motorhome Aire, to developing new accommodation projects and welcoming visitors from around the world, the journey has been incredible — but also very much a team effort behind the scenes.

Leaving the security of a corporate career is never an easy decision, but we’re incredibly proud to now be focusing fully on building our future here in Sanday together. Clare brings with her a huge amount of experience, professionalism and creativity and we’re excited about what the next few years will bring for 59° North.

As a small independent business on a remote island, every customer, visitor, share, recommendation and bit of support genuinely means the world to us. Thank you for continuing to support our little business and our ambitious plans for the future.

Here’s to new beginnings, big ideas, and the next chapter of 59° North ❤️
