Stolen from FB, but a very articulate view for outward facing messages to those calling for pub closures on the back of the current media agenda against hospitality......

Do you have hand sanitiser for visitors to your home? Do they have to wear masks on entry, only removing them when sat down with family members? Do they wear them again to get up to use the bathroom? Have you invested in non touch hand wash units and anti viral hand wash? Do you clean the entire house with anti viral cleaner every time they leave? Do you maintain a log of visitors, check their temperatures and open your house up to Council inspection to ensure you’re meeting regulations? Do you stop your family from hugging, shouting or singing for fear of transmission? Pubs do!

Then why do you call for public houses to be shut? Why do you consider them to be unsafe when you have been wandering around shops with a higher risk of transmission? Why do you say keeping them open makes no sense?

How short our memories are! How we missed being able to visit pubs for a coffee, a bite to eat, a glass of wine or a pint of beer during lockdown.

Pubs are not all the same. Our venues are as wide and varied as the customers they serve. The media shows you images of young adults queuing up outside busy bars without a care for social distancing. That same media doesn’t publish images of some of the beautiful town and village pubs that cover our landscape. Where rules are adhered to and customers health and well-being made a priority.

Take a moment today to visit a pub in your area. Consider the lengths they have gone to, the investment they’ve made, the time they’ve taken to keep us all safe. Enjoy a drink and something to eat.

Then post about your visit on social media. Let’s get a well-informed and balanced view out there.

They may not be there at all the next time you look up from your phone or keyboard whilst you’ve been busy calling for them to close. They may not survive without your support, yet another period of closure.

I have read so many negative comments driven by the media and look forward to seeing a sea change in views when you have taken the time to visit and make up your minds for yourselves.

Support your local. Stay safe.
