With Scottish Apprenticeship Week taking place a few weeks ago, we felt it was a good time to highlight an issue many electrical contractors across Scotland are currently facing.
๐ช๐ฒโ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ณ๐๐ฒ๐ป ๐ฎ๐๐ธ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ถ๐ณ ๐๐ฒโ๐น๐น ๐ฏ๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐ธ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ผ๐ป ๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐.
๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐ต๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ถ๐ - ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐๐น๐ฑ ๐น๐ผ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ผ, ๐ฏ๐๐ ๐๐ป๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐๐ป๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐ถ๐๐ปโ๐ ๐ฎ๐น๐๐ฎ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ถ๐บ๐ฝ๐น๐ฒ.
Training the next generation of electricians is something we care strongly about and something weโre already heavily invested in. Over the years weโve had the privilege of training a large number of apprentices who have gone on to become qualified electricians. At the moment ๐๐ฒ ๐ต๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ณ๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ป๐ - two traditional apprentices and two adult apprentices - all working hard to build their careers in the trade.
However, ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฝ๐น๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ฒ, while the level of funding and support available simply isnโt keeping pace. Without meaningful support from local authorities - specifically for us ๐๐ฎ๐๐ ๐๐๐ฟ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐๐ป๐ฐ๐ถ๐น - ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฐ๐ผ๐๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฝ๐ ๐ถ๐ ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ป๐๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐บ๐ฎ๐น๐น ๐ฏ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐๐ฒ๐ ๐น๐ถ๐ธ๐ฒ ๐ผ๐๐ฟ๐๐ฒ๐น๐๐ฒ๐. From what we understand, this is not an isolated issue and is being felt across the country, ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐น๐ ๐น๐ถ๐บ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐๐ป๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ป๐ฒ๐

This is something we feel strongly about and ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ป๐๐ฒ ๐๐ผ ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐๐ผ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ฎ๐น๐ผ๐ป๐ด๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐๐๐๐๐ง, the trade association representing electrical contractors across Scotland. Itโs a concern shared by many companies across the industry and raising awareness is an important part of improving the situation for the future of the trade.
For now, our focus is on continuing to support and develop the apprentices we already have and ๐๐ฒ ๐ต๐ผ๐ฝ๐ฒ ๐๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ถ๐ป๐ฑ๐๐๐๐ฟ๐, ๐บ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐๐ป๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ถ๐น๐น ๐ฏ๐ฒ ๐ฝ๐ผ๐๐๐ถ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ณ๐๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ.
