Massive thank you to Bruna & Emma . The best week with some amazing people: Fiona Arron Ted & Diana .
The first few days were spent in the Cerrado Mineiro region visiting some fantastic producers including;
Fernando Belone and his incredible wife Elesandra Belone. We got to see the different varietals they have on their farm, the crop rotations they incorporate, the vast drying beds & not forgetting their amazing hospitality and lunch. Elesandra is experimenting with various microlot coffees and we got to cup some of these later at Expocacar.
Gabriel Nunes - a fourth generation agronomist and farmer who showed us around his amazing farm with gesha’s and some new experimental varietals then we had a memorable bbq with the regions producers.
The next day José Lucas introduced us to his coffees on the family estate and we met his producer sister and learned about the resilience they have had to have to get through frosts that have nearly wiped their crops out and how they are growing their business through regenerative farming. We tasted some fabulous coffees here too.
The final few days were spent with two of the most incredible ladies, producers we already work with Andrea Costa (Brunas mum) and Patricia Coehlo. They have been operating as a regenerative farm for years with regular crop covers and crop rotations. Patricia’s son was busy on one of the farms (pictured with her here) and we drove a 4x4 around Patricia’s higher farm (1,250m) which had incredible views. Picked avocados and fruit from her interspersed crops!
Andreas farm is nearby too and we got to drive and see coffee being harvested which was super interesting.
We finished off at Costa Cafe, Armando Costa’s (Bruna’s dad) export business. Wow! It was amazing to see how coffee is processed, sorted and packed ready for distribution and export. We even got to see Bossa’a coffee bags being packed - currently on its way over & in to your cups soon!
