We are sad to say that we are closing our Khao Soi Thai Cafe on Smokehouse Yard from 30th October.

Amporn and I would like to thank all our customers for their support through the last year or so, we will miss you all.

We have found it very difficult, if not tiring, to operate the cafe as we would wish while running our busy takeaway on Dockray.

We look forward to meeting you again and to continue to cook for you at
www.thaikitcheninlakeland.co.uk where we will be bringing some new dishes to our menu, especially Khao Soi :)

Our cafe special this week is Spaghetti Kee Mao Talay-ผัดขี้เมา
Spaghetti is not an ingredient usually associated with Thai food but this intriguing blend of spaghetti with mixed seafood is cooked Thai style. ‘Kee Mao’ literally translates as drunken noodles.
The ingredients are stir-fried in the wok, mixed and twisted together, before being slid onto the plate. I always try to use Thai holy basil which is added to the meat, along with assorted seafood to create that distinctive aroma.
This an unexpected addition to the traditional Thai dishes and probably originated from southern Thailand under the influence of Europeans that travelled to the country at the turn of the century.

Our cafe special this week is 'Kai Palo' one of my favourite Thai dishes - a real Bangkok street food favourite - and a very different style of Thai dish, rather unique amongst Thai cuisine, strongly retaining its Chinese character.

Hard boiled eggs and tender pork belly are slowly simmered in a sweet-salty five-spice broth to create a dish that is somehow soothing with the scent of warm, fragrant, almost middle-eastern spices.

Introduced locally by the Chinese-Cantonese immigrants who flocked to the Kingdom in the early nineteenth century. It is one of those Thai comfort dishes that is not spicy, best cooked slowly, and even better allowed to mature overnight with the eggs and meat absorbing all the flavours.

Try something different this week, our ramen noodles (Kanom Jeen Nam Ya) proved popular yesterday.
This dish from southern Thailand is a Thai favourite on street stalls and made with a variety of sauces.
Then from nothern Thailand is the fantastic Khao Soi, so good that we've even namd our cafe after it 😀

We're bringing you two fantastic specials this week at Khao Soi Cafe.
Kanom Jeen Nam Ya: is a coconut-milk minced fish curry that originates from southern Thailand and is a favourite on the many food stalls there. Kanom Jeen are tender rice noodles and can be cooked with a variety of sauces. Many local food stalls (and street carts) in Thailand specialise in making only Kanom Jeen where you can choose from a variety of sauces to accompany the noodles.
The favourite sauce is Namya,- a fish based sauce. Kanom Jeen Nam Ya is not something that you will easily find in the many Thai restaurants in the UK, so be sure not to miss this distinctive dish from our specials menu this week.
Second tapas special are Amporn's delicious homemade Thai fish cakes, made with fresh fish, deep fried with Thai herbs and seasoning and served with a salsa dip.
