Kesh 4 Ballinamallard Reserves 0
The Reserves’ will finish fourth in their first season back in Division One of the Fermanagh and Western, after a final day defeat to Kesh.
The young Mallards needed to win the match to give themselves any chance of winning the title and they started well and put together some good football as they took the game to the league leaders. Jack Beaty headed off target from Danny Hughes’ cross and Adam McCreery glanced Stevie Drumm’s corner over the bar in the early stages of the game.
Kesh made the breakthrough midway through the first half. Calvin Brown made a good diving stop from Jordan McClure’s free kick, but from the resulting corner Wilson rose highest to head in. One minute before half time Wilson won a penalty and Jordan McClure converted. as the Mallards went into half time two behind despite their efforts.
Any chance the Mallards had to mounting a comeback were harshly ended with a disputed red card in the second half, and with a numerical disadvantage and Ballinamallard trying to push forward to get back into the contest, Kesh scored twice more to keep their own title hopes alive.
Despite the disappointing end to their season, it has been a very positive and pleasing campaign for the young and inexperienced side. To still be in with a chance of the league title going into their final game of the season was a great achievement, and something they can take great belief from going into next season.
