Jon Gomm headlined 1 of our Coffee Shop Open Mic Sessions in 2011

He was performing in Inverness and I thought ooh maybe he would like to come and perform to our Coffee Shop attendees.

It turned out his grandfather had planted the Giant sequoia’s you see standing tall above the Victoria Spa village of Strathpeffer with 1 directly across from the Coffee Shop so he was delighted to be able to perform where his family had a strong connection.

Jon Gomm blew us all away with his out of this world guitar tapping, detuning, slapping and mesmerising vocal/ guitar skills were a memorable experience.

He has toured all of the world, visiting luthier workshops, appearing on major news channels/ TV programmes/ radio. Performing to so many people. He is one of the most down to earth people you could meet and he literally hugged the trees when he visited. Nice guy

An Interesting study on Music and Mental Health.🤓

It’s amazing to see how the benefits of being creative through Music and other channels, social interaction and being part of a group can improve your mental and physical health. 🙏

Encouraging the “Happy” brain chemicals to send positive signals around the body. 🧠

Speaking to Coffee Shop Session attendees in the past I would hear people say; ☕️

“This is literally a lifeline for me right now”

“I used to sit in my bedroom on my own so now that I can take my music out of the bedroom and on to a stage, I’m motivated to write more”

“It’s inspiring to hear everyone’s different songwriting ideas, it really moves me”

“I never used to go out, because I struggled with my addiction”

“It’s nice to have somewhere that you don’t feel like people are judging you, you can just be you”

Some people THINK Music Events don’t make a big impact on the community, but trust me they DO ❤️‍🩹

If you’re struggling. Remember a problem shared is a problem halved. Someone is always willing to listen.
I would love to collaborate with charities like Mikeys Line who are making a huge difference to peoples lives 💖

The Coffee Shop Open Mic Sessions first began in 2010 in The Coffee Shop in Strathpeffer where many Songwriters could showcase their songs and network with other musicians, promoters, festival organisers, radio producers & sound engineers in the area.

The Open Mic sessions grew arms and legs and was intended to inspire, encourage and motivate musicians who had never maybe had a chance at being on stage. It astounded me the level of talent hidden away and not given the opportunity to perform.

We had Grammy Award winning songwriters such as Eric Brace come over from America and International phenomenal Artists such as Jon Gomm who took the time to come and headline for us.

Many of the musicians who attended our Open Mic Sessions are now doing their own UK Tours, performing with major bands, signed to major record labels and regularly played on mainstream radio.

It’s amazing to see how everyone has grown and WE would like to SEE more musicians GROW and have the same opportunity many others have been given.

The NEW Open Mic sessions will include a decent PA system, a recording of your music, we will help you to promote your talent, we will be working with local radio stations, a HOST, learn about the music industry, networking opportunities and get help with applying for festivals, events, where to study music?
