There's been a pretty bad car accident at the entrance to Invergowrie this afternoon.

We really hope everyone involved is OK. That's obviously far more important than anything else.

We've been told the road should hopefully reopen soon, but with the school run and the extra traffic now coming through the village just now, we're going to delay the start of our deliveries slightly today.

Deliveries will start from 5pm instead of our usual 4pm.

Collections will still be available as normal.

Sorry for any inconvenience, and please take a little extra care if you're travelling through Invergowrie this afternoon.

Hopefully everyone involved in the accident is safe and well. ❤️

I probably shouldn't admit how many things we make at Azaad Invergowrie, that you never actually get to eat.

Customers normally only see the finished result unless you are in the takeaway while we are 'experimenting'.

Something appears on our menu and it probably looks like we've just decided one day, 'lets start selling this'. The reality is completely different. We are constantly messing about with things in the kitchen.

Different ingredients. Different suppliers. Different cooking methods. Different portion sizes, different spice blends, different cooking times.

Sometimes somebody will make something and we'll all stand around trying it. "That's brilliant."
Then we make it again and its utter rubbish.

Change something. Give some to a customer. Ask what they think. Change it AGAIN!! 😂

And after all that, quite a lot of the ideas never even make it onto the menu. That might sound like a massive waste of time but, i actually think it's one of the reasons Azaad has lasted as long as it has.

I never want us to reach the point where we think:
"We're busy. Customers are happy. Just leave everything alone." Because there's nearly always something we can make a little bit better.

Our chicken changed because of this.
Our kebabs changed because of this.
Our whole menu setup changed because of this.

And recently, after customers kept telling us they wanted something specifically for one person on a Monday, we went back into the kitchen again.

That little bit of feedback has turned into something we've been working on behind the scenes...

The RiceBox.
And that's nearly ready. 👀

I genuinely love this side of running Azaad. Some of our best ideas haven't come from me. They've come from you.

So I'm curious...

If you could change ONE thing about Azaad — a dish you'd bring back, something you'd change, or something completely new you'd love us to make, what would it be?

Don't worry about offending me. 😂

Update on the
MONDAY CURRY CLUB… FOR ONE? 👀❤️

This one has come from feedback from customers🫡

We absolutely love how popular our Monday Curry Club for 2 has become, but there’s one bit of feedback we’ve been hearing more and more.

'What about those of us ordering just for ourselves?' We thought, exactly!! Why should you need two people to get excited about Monday night dinner at Azaads? 😂 Once we asked the question, We have had phone calls and customers coming in to show us their support for this.

So behind the scenes, we’ve been working on something new.

And after quite a bit of trial and error, this is where we are🤔

Meet our new RiceBox. ❤️

Rice, one of our chicken curries, topped with cheese and fresh coriander — all together in one box, made as a proper meal for ONE.

This is one of the first ones we’ve made and we are genuinely excited about it.

It still needs a little work before we are happy enough to launch it. If ita going to go home the menu, its needs to be pretty much perfect.

But this is exactly why your feedback matters to us.

Sometimes a customer makes a suggestion that gets us thinking. Then the experimenting starts in the kitchen… recipes change, portions change, ideas get thrown out and we keep going until we have something can be proud of.

And I think we might have something very good here. 😍

So, to all the single Curry Club customers. We heard you. We are working on it and this is how far we have got.

Monday nights might be about to get a whole lot better. 👀

Now we need your help with the final bit.

What curry would YOU put in your RiceBox?

I wasn't expecting to wake up to this message this morning.

We're in the middle of updating our website. We are just trying to make it a bit faster, easier to use and a little more modern.

Last night I sent Hayley, who's designing it, a list of things I'd like changed. I want the website to be personal and not just a generic takeaway website. I was really excited about the improvements.

Warning, a little bit of shameless self promotion coming. This morning she replied with something I wasn't expecting.

"Amar, I would order from Azaads if you delivered to my part of Dundee. And it's not because of the curry or the kebabs, it's because of you and how much you care.

You obsess over quality. You're always trying to improve things. The chicken, the Greek flatbread. you test ingredients, ask customers what they think and when something goes wrong, you create systems to stop it happening again. All this is so rare."

I don't think about any of those things. I just come into work and look for what we can do better.

I think that's why our slogan has always been "The Best in Home Dining."
Not because we think we're perfect. Because we are always trying to be better than we were yesterday. Doesnt always happen. Things go wrong, mistakes happen. Anybody in the Hospitality trade will agree, but its about how you deal with it.

P.s I dont photograph well and although I was a carrying a little holiday weight this is the best pic I can find.

Two young lads knocked on my door today... and took me straight back to my childhood. ❤️

A few days ago, I messaged someone on Facebook about getting my car washed and received a very professional reply.

Today, two young lads walked into the takeaway and asked if they could speak to the boss.

I assumed they were looking for a job.

They weren't.

They were here to wash my car.

And just like that, I was ten years old again.

Summer holidays used to mean early mornings, holiday cartoons on TV, then straight out the door with a bucket and sponge. I'd spend the day washing cars, cutting grass and squeezing in as much football as I could before Mum came looking for and it was home for dinner.

I wasn't trying to become a millionaire. I just wanted enough money to buy the things every kid dreamed about.

A pair of Nike trainers.

A new game.

Eventually, I saved enough to buy my Sega Mega Drive. (Although, if I'm honest, I still think my Commodore 64 was better!)

Watching these boys today reminded me that some things never change.

They're polite, respectful, hardworking and far more organised than I ever was. I had a sponge and a bucket. They've got proper equipment, a plan and the confidence to knock on doors and earn their own money.

When they finished, I paid them. Then I watched them walk into Azaad to spend the money they'd just worked so hard to earn.

I couldn't let that happen.

Their meal was on me.

Not because they asked.

But because young people with that kind of work ethic deserve to be encouraged.

To the boys... thank you for doing a fantastic job.

And to your parents... you should be incredibly proud. You've raised respectful young men who aren't waiting for opportunities to come to them—they're out there creating their own.

I have no doubt they'll go on to do great things

SHE PHONED BACK AND ASKED TO SPEAK TO ME..

Nobody ever asks to speak to me.

Unless I’ve done something wrong.

So when the phone rang and one of our regular customers specifically asked for Amar, I immediately thought:

“What have I done?”

But this story actually began a little earlier…

Over the past few weeks, the feedback on our new handmade Greek flatbread has been phenomenal.

Changing something customers already know and love is always a risk. People naturally prefer what they’re used to.

That’s why we test everything.

Different recipes.
Different ingredients.
Different cooking methods.

And the ruthless truth is, around 19 out of every 20 ideas never make it onto the menu.

But this flatbread was different.

Almost every customer who tried it told us the same thing:

“It’s a massive improvement.”

Then one of our customers, who owns a very successful café herself, asked us to try something we hadn’t considered before.

She wanted her Doner Hoagie made using our Greek flatbread instead of the usual tortilla wrap.

We agreed. It was going to be a bit difficult to make, but I wanted something in return.

She had to give us her completely honest feedback.

A little while later, the phone rang.

She asked for me.

I prepared myself for the worst.

Then she said one word:

“Banging.”

So last night, I had to try one for myself.

And…

OH MEH GOAD

Soft, fluffy Greek flatbread.

Doner meat.

Chips.

Cheese.

Salad.

Sauce.

All wrapped together into something that genuinely could be a game changer for our Hoagies and wraps.

So tonight, we’re putting it to the real test.

For tonight only, our Hoagies will be made using the new Greek flatbread.

They’re slightly harder for us to make this way…

But honestly?

I think you’re going to taste the difference from the very first bite.

So here’s what we need from you.

Order one. Try it. Then give us your brutally honest verdict.

And tag the friend who is always ordering a Hoagie or wrap — because they need to try this.

We’ll share the feedback we receive and let you decide whether this deserves a permanent place on the Azaad menu.

Tonight could be the night our humble Hoagie changes forever. I will try and make a video of the Hoagie later.

Thank you,
Amar
