Over half the tickets for the Gruesome Tales on the Rails event are now sold. Do not miss out on your chance to take part in this unique exploration of the darker side of life during the building of the Settle-Carlisle Railway ....

Gory tales of some the very unpleasant ways people met their end will be 'brought to life' by Sarah Lister, Author and Historian from Settle Graveyard Project accompanied by a ghostly navvy wife and the coroner from the period.

This is a quirky and light hearted event but it will contain details and stories about illnesses, deaths and incidents that some people may find upsetting so please ensure you think this is not something that will offend or upset you before booking. Not suitable for children under 12

Here is a little challenge for you .... can you count the trucks?? (or cars, or carriages, or wagons .... everyone has their own name for them!!)

This is the longest train that runs on the line and it is also the most wonderful smelling one!!

Very excited to announce a new event for Halloween coming to the Visitor Centre - Gruesome Tales from the Rails!!

This is a deep dive into the darker side of life during the building of the railway - health and safety was unheard of, disease was rife and dubious lifestyle choices abounded ...

This will be quite ghoulish and gory as we hear from the Coroner at the time Thomas Parkinson Brown alongside some ghostly companions so it's not for the fainthearted!

Tickets are limited and cost £12 each which includes a soup and sandwich lunch

As we enter September here are the details of the special trains that will be travelling along the route.

The national ban on steam has been lifted so hopefully we will soon be hearing the hiss and thunder of our beautiful heritage locomotives again. Today is scheduled to be diesel but Saturday is looking like Tangmere

It's always worth a visit to see something unusual come through but don't forget there are trains run everyday - lots of freight (loading and shunting at Ribblehead most Fridays) and the wonderful smelling log train around 3pm everyday

We can't give you timings for the specials listings as these are often subject to change but Real Time Trains is a great website to look and you can always pass the time with us in the Tearoom and Visitor Centre

We are open everyday 9am to 4pm still and offering breakfast, lunch and delicious cakes and traybakes all day please do pop in and see us.

Thanks Friends of the Settle-Carlisle Line yes we are here every day and our new menu is proving very popular, especially the hot steak specials. Please do pop in and see us over the bank holiday. We would especially like to thank our amazing volunteers who will be supporting the paid staff throughout the weekend and really do make it possible for us to be open and offering such a friendly welcome

Come and join our team

We are still looking for someone to join our catering team covering Ribblehead and Horton Station Cafes.

The days are likely to be Friday, Saturday and one other each week (with the possibility of more if wanted from Easter to October)

We are a super friendly little team, supported by amazing volunteers from the Friends of the Settle-Carlisle Line and it is an incredible venue to work in, meeting people from all around the world who have come to enjoy this incredible location.
