Westerly in the Wilderness, the joint exhibition from Val Menon and Myrtle Pont, closes on 26 September, so there's just a short while left to catch it. Both artists take their inspiration from landscape and the paintings are well worth a browse next time you're in for a coffee or picking up your post. Pop in before the exhibition comes down.

Gifford always delivers. A few miles from Humbie, it's a beautifully kept conservation village with a 17th-century mercat cross, a village green and some good places to eat and drink.

It's also the perfect starting point for a walk up into the Lammermuir Hills - or a lovely excuse to just wander about for an afternoon.

The second artist featured in Westerly in the Wilderness is Myrtle Pont, who paints under her maiden name Myrtle Eadie. Born on Islay and educated in Edinburgh, Myrtle originally trained in jewellery design at Edinburgh College of Art before turning to painting later in life, working mainly in pastel. She now lives in Pathhead and has exhibited before at the Hub, back in 2009. Her landscape work is on show until 26 September, alongside paintings from fellow artist Val Menon.

In February 2023, Humbie Hub was named Scottish Champion for Best Village Shop and Post Office at the Countryside Alliance Awards - and invited to the national finals in London.

It meant a huge amount to us, and it truly belongs to everyone who pops in, supports us and makes this place what it is.

Thank you for being part of it 🙂 We are very proud of our sign on the front of the Hub!

One of the two artists featured in Westerly in the Wilderness is Val Menon, a painter based in Edinburgh since graduating in Fine Art from Nottingham College of Art in 1989. Originally from the Yorkshire Dales, Val takes inspiration from landscape and has spent recent years exploring the west coast of Scotland, drawn to its rugged coastlines and sense of isolation.

Her work has been exhibited across the UK and is held in collections including Liverpool University and Edinburgh's hospitals.

Her paintings are on show at the Hub until 26 September.
