Melodious musical memories with the Monday Boys - the CV's of these guys... honestly! And you lucky people get to see them for free every Monday 2-5pm... You're welcome!
We made a little bit of jazz history yesterday when our old friend, the drummer Don Cook, dropped into the Paris House. Sitting around the table from the left are me, Mick Hamer, Don's son Stephen, Don Cook, Al Nicholls and Nils Solberg.
Over the years Don Cook worked with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Bruce Turner, Dick Charlesworth and Charlie Galbraith and he toured with American stars like Champion Jack Dupree, who as Don said, was the 'master of the eleven and a half bar blues'.
Listing all the connections between us would be tedious, but Don and I first worked together back in November 1968. Together with Al Nicholls we did a stretch with Dick Laurie's Elastic Band, while Nils and Don both worked regularly for Dick Charlesworth as well as sharing a house in London.
