My wife took this photo, on a holiday that we really can’t afford to be on.. something that we’ll probably be paying off for the next, undisclosed time..

Being a restaurant owner means we’re never really off the clock - (whilst away, blocked drains, supplier issues - I won’t bore you 🤦🏻‍♂️)

You’re constantly thinking about rising costs, staffing, suppliers, wages and whether the numbers will still work next month.

Month by month..

An example..
In 2020, our electricity bill averaged around £600 a month.

Today, it’s hovering just under £2,600 a month.

Business rates were £295, 18 months later they’re now £1100

That’s not because we’re using more electricity or suddenly grown in size..
This is the reality of doing an indi business in hospitality in 2026

Sometimes I sit and wonder, how much longer can this continue?
How much longer can we continue?

The truth is, independent restaurants aren’t asking for sympathy.

We’re asking for understanding.

Behind every local restaurant are people working long hours, carrying huge responsibilities, and doing everything they can to keep the doors open.

Despite the pressure, we keep showing up.
We keep serving our communities, creating jobs, and doing what we love.
