With the rain we’re having, the only sunset you’re likely to see is through a very wet window. But when the clouds finally give us a break, there’s no better place to watch the sky light up over the Norfolk Broads.

The beautiful village of Horning has been connected to the River Bure for over 1,000 years.

In fact, the name Horning is believed to mean “the people who live on the high ground between the rivers”, a reminder of just how important the waterways have always been to village life. (Norfolk Broads Direct⁠)

Long before holidaymakers arrived on the Norfolk Broads, boats carrying goods, livestock and local people travelled these same waters every day. The rivers were the lifeblood of the community, shaping the village we know and love today.

Today, visitors can still enjoy those same stunning riverside views from The New Inn, watching boats drift past while enjoying great food, a refreshing drink and a little slice of Norfolk’s history.
