What a week this is turning out to be …… and it’s only Tuesday!!!

Did you know our The Treehouse Community Fridge isn’t just a large, cool (very noisy!) cupboard that sits within The Treehouse, but is actually a food registered business in its own right?

That means it is subject to the same rigourous standards as any other food prep or catering premises. Including temperature records, cleaning rotas, hygiene training, COSSH control ………

Today it had an unannounced visit from Environmental Health for it’s in depth inspection and we are thrilled to say that it passed with flying colours and five stars

We really value the important work that EHOs do and are always pleased to welcome them. We have every faith in our policies and procedures but it is always lovely to have them recognised and acknowledged.

We are very pleased; especially with the positive comments regarding our ‘best practice’, attention to detail, and the valuable commodity we are providing.

A massive thank you goes out to The Community Fridge volunteer team who tirelessly collect, sort, clear and clean from the goodness of their hearts 💚💚💚

Let’s play Spot the Difference - two almost identical photos; same building, same carpark, the first one being taken seven years ago today.

What’s different are the people.

The people in the first photo had a vision; a desire to provide a place where people could come together, where everyone was welcome and equal, where finances were no boundary. We knew how hard life can be. We knew it was needed and we were damn well going to make it happen.

We had no team, no money, no business know how. Just lots of people telling us that it would never work.

We may look the same (if a little older) but these people are not the same as the ones in the second photo.

This journey has seen us through so many twist and turns, not just professionally but personally. We have lived our lives alongside The Treehouse; both experiencing times of joy and absolute despair. The only thing that has got us through is our remarkable friendship of support and care, along with the love and camaraderie of so many people that we’ve met along the way

Without these first hand experiences and the growth that comes along with them we wouldn’t be able to do the job we do; we can listen, we can empathise, we can support - because we’ve been there, because we get it

We still have struggles, we still have low times and that’s ok, because we know that we have built a village, and a village always rallies round.

“It shouldn’t have worked” - No, on paper it probably shouldn’t, but it did and it’s still growing as are we.

Seven years of meeting wonderful people,
Seven years of supporting families
Seven years of connecting with incredible organisations,
Seven years of bringing people together,
Seven years of us.

One of my absolute favourite things to do each day is pick the lettuce for your lunches-a really simple thing to do but it is a remarkably grounding and wholesome experience-to sow, nurture, harvest and provide fresh produce from our very own community garden, it really doesn’t come fresher than that. When I then make your lunch and put the salad together I feel like I’m giving each of you a little gift.

Today is Thursday and at 9.30 we have our last messy play session of the term It’s a wonderful opportunity to play and get messy with your little one, we have aprons and puddle suits.
At 12.30 you can join us in the community vegetable patch for w**ding and nurturing the vegetables. It would be lovely to see you
We are open during the holidays for the first four weeks with lots of play in the wild garden but no organised groups until September
See you soon 💚

When we first started renting the old children’s centre six years ago the garden was a vast lawn, but we had imagination and aspirations of creating a place for children to run, play and explore freely but also a community garden with pathways to hidden areas of lush flower beds and tucked away seating areas and a vegetable patch which grows food to use in the cafe and a wild flower meadow.
Our first attempt to create the meadow was in those weird times inbetween lockdowns. We invited our community to come over and dig a metre square of lawn and sow wildflower seeds at distances and time slots so as to adhere to the strict rules at the time. All these years on and look…year after year the contribution of our neighbours and wider community has created an astonishingly unique biodiverse environment that is a shared space for everyone to enjoy. Sometimes Rachel and I take a moment and look in astonishment at what our imagination has created and what the wider community has built alongside us.

Yesterday we said our last goodbye to Rick, our dear friend.
His funeral yesterday was an incredible and beautiful celebration of his remarkable life.
We first met Rick just before lockdown when he rocked up offering to help us get The Treehouse ready in the run up to opening for the first time. He brought in his old kitchen cabinets and created our bespoke counter and even though is was at a crazy angle in a corner he made it fit and made it perfect for us.
He helped build the yurt as well and with his calm, his humour and Herculean strength we got it up and completed in just one day. Many times he has called in just when we needed a hand-it’s like he knew.

I will always remember us sitting together talking about our parents and him really listening and caring about my mum. He always talked about his life and always updated me on what he and Mandy were doing. He was always so proud of his children and spoke about them so much.
The last time we saw him was just a few weeks ago when he popped in to share his veg seedlings and help dig over and w**d the community vegetable patch.
We will really miss him - his humour, his kindness, thoughtfulness, compassion, generosity of his time, skills and energy. His unmistakable voice and his contagious laugh.

It feels like the end of an era today 😢

Today we said goodbye to the wonderful staff at Stepping Stones Day Nursery, it has been an absolute pleasure to share our space with you for the last six years.
Kelly, Holly and Jolie; we will miss you so much and things won’t be the same without you wishing us ‘night night’ at the close of day. We know you will all thrive in your next chapters and the families you go on to support will be privileged to have you in their lives.

To all the families who we see day in and day out; we will miss your happy smiley children, it has been an honour watching them grow and we wish them every happiness in their new adventures
