Last weekend was a reminder that running a small independent restaurant occasionally has its challenges. We made the difficult decision to close for two evenings as a precaution โ€” not something we wanted to do, but absolutely the right thing to do.

Maintaining high standards and looking after our guests will always come first.

When we opened The Molesworth at the end of April, we had a very clear vision: to create a small, relaxed village restaurant offering really good, interesting food inspired by our travels, carefully chosen w**es and drinks, warm personal service and, above all, a genuinely lovely evening at very good value.

It has been incredibly satisfying to hear how much people enjoy not just the food and w**e, but the whole experience of spending an evening with us.

We deliberately keep things focused, make choices carefully and continually look for ways to improve, while staying true to what we set out to create.

Five months in, the response has exceeded anything we expected. The wonderful reviews, returning guests, rebookings and recommendations mean an enormous amount to us.

Thank you, as always, for your support.

We are back open as normal this Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 6pm, and very much looking forward to welcoming everyone again.

The nights are drawing in โ€” and this is exactly the time of year The Molesworth comes into its own.

Warm lighting, a relaxed table, good food, a bottle of w**e and nowhere you need to rush off to.

Weโ€™re a small restaurant, and deliberately keep the number of tables limited so we can look after people properly and everyone can relax and enjoy the evening.

Weโ€™re open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6pm.

If an autumn evening at The Molesworth sounds appealing, weโ€™d love to welcome you.

Booking ahead is always recommended.

Apparently summer is over.

We knew the change to autumn had been rather abrupt, but weโ€™ve already started getting enquiries about Christmas. ๐ŸŽ„

Some people are clearly far better organised than we are.

Over the next few weeks weโ€™ll be introducing some new dishes for the cooler months, with the menu gradually becoming a little more autumnal as the evenings draw in.

But the early Christmas enquiries have also made us speed up our planning for the festive season.

Weโ€™re now working on the Christmas menu and dates, and weโ€™ll share more details as soon as theyโ€™re ready.

So, for now, weโ€™ll enjoy autumn, bring in a few new dishesโ€ฆ

โ€ฆand accept that some of you are already several steps ahead and thinking about December. ๐Ÿ‚๐ŸŽ„

๐Ÿ‚ A change of season at The Molesworthโ€ฆ

The children are back at school, the evenings are starting to draw in, and thereโ€™s that first unmistakable feeling that summer is beginning to give way to autumn.

We rather like this time of year.

The pace changes a little, the evenings become cosier, and thereโ€™s something particularly nice about settling in somewhere warm with good food, a glass of w**e and nowhere else you need to be.

At The Molesworth, the welcome stays exactly the same.

Whether youโ€™re joining us for dinner, popping in for a drink, or simply looking for somewhere relaxed to spend an evening, weโ€™d love to see you.

Weโ€™re open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6pm.

๐Ÿท Good food. Good w**e. A warm welcome. And the start of another beautiful Devon season.

One of the things we have enjoyed most since opening The Molesworth is seeing it gradually evolve.

There is always something we are thinking about โ€” new specials for the menu, small improvements to the dรฉcor and lighting, ideas for the outside of the building, and how the food and atmosphere should change as we move from summer towards autumn.

None of it is about changing everything at once. It is about making thoughtful, incremental improvements and continually asking ourselves what we can do a little better for our guests.

The Molesworth today already feels quite different from when we opened at the end of April โ€” and we are still only getting started.

Weโ€™ll be open again this Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 6pm for drinks and dinner.

We look forward to welcoming you.

When we opened the doors at the end of April, we had plenty of ideas about what we wanted The Molesworth to become.

A little over three months later, weโ€™re delighted by how far weโ€™ve already come.

The menu has evolved, the restaurant has become busier, weโ€™ve welcomed familiar local faces alongside visitors from much further afield, and โ€” most importantly โ€” weโ€™re beginning to see the kind of relaxed, friendly place we imagined taking shape.

Good food, good w**e, sensible prices and somewhere you can simply enjoy an evening without too much fuss.

But we certainly donโ€™t think weโ€™ve finished.

In many ways, weโ€™re only just getting going.

There are more dishes we want to try, more ideas we want to explore and plenty more we want to do as The Molesworth develops.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. Weโ€™re having a lot of fun building it.

Weโ€™re back to our normal opening this week:

Thursday, Friday & Saturday from 6pm.

Whether youโ€™re popping in for a drink or joining us for dinner, we look forward to seeing you.

One of the things weโ€™re enjoying most about The Molesworth is the wonderful mix of people coming through the door.

Over the past week weโ€™ve had people from our own village popping in for a drink or something to eat, guests staying with us for a few days, and visitors from Italy, Germany and the Netherlands.

It has been particularly lovely to hear people say not only how much they enjoyed their meal and their stay, but how different The Molesworth feels from other places theyโ€™ve visited. That is exactly what weโ€™ve been trying to create: great food, a relaxed atmosphere and somewhere that feels just a little bit special โ€” without being remotely stuffy.

And having people from just down the road sitting alongside people who have travelled hundreds of miles to be here feels rather nice too.

This week weโ€™re open for dinner on Thursday 13 and Friday 14 August. We have a family event on Saturday, so there will be no normal Saturday service this week.

Weโ€™ll then be back to our usual Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 20 August.

We did unfortunately have to turn a few people away again last weekend, so if youโ€™re thinking of joining us, booking ahead is definitely recommended.

We look forward to seeing you โ€” whether youโ€™ve travelled from Europe or approximately 200 yards down the road. ๐Ÿ˜Š

A busy weekend at The Molesworth โ€” and a lovely reminder of why weโ€™re doing this ๐ŸŒฟ

It was very much a family effort, with all hands involved across the kitchen, bar and front of house. Thank you to everyone who came to eat, drink, stay, chat, support us, and generally make the place feel alive.

We also had this beautiful girl visit us โ€” a rather magnificent Leonberger who fitted into The Molesworth atmosphere beautifully. Calm, friendly, and frankly better dressed for the countryside than most of us.

Our menu continues to evolve with the seasons. We keep it deliberately small so we can focus on cooking properly, looking after people well, and making each evening feel relaxed, thoughtful and quietly special.

This week weโ€™re open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening from 6pm.

If youโ€™ve been meaning to come and try us, weโ€™d love to welcome you.

A small menu, thoughtfully chosenโ€”and changed as the seasons change.

We deliberately keep our menu focused. It allows us to prepare each dish properly, maintain consistency and introduce new dishes as the year moves on.

And because Devon weather rarely follows the calendar, there is something to suit different evenings too.

Perhaps King Prawn Linguine, our smoky haddock fish cakes or Japanese Vegetable Curry when you fancy something lighter. Or, when the weather turnsโ€”or you simply want something comfortingโ€”slow-cooked Devon Beef Bourguignon or our Golden Crumb Chicken & Ham Deep Dish.

We also regularly introduce specials, so keep an eye out for something a little different when you visit.

Good food, carefully chosen w**e and a relaxed evening in our small village restaurant.

Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6pm.

Thank you to everyone who joined us over another wonderfully busy weekend. It has been especially lovely to hear how much you are enjoying our new menu.

At The Molesworth, we want to offer something a little different: high-quality, generously served food at good value, accompanied by carefully chosen w**es and friendly serviceโ€”all in a wonderfully relaxed, grown-up setting.

Whether you are joining us for dinner or simply popping in for a drink, we want you to feel welcome, comfortable and able to enjoy your evening without being rushed.

With the summer holidays beginning, we expect the coming weeks to become increasingly busy, so booking ahead is strongly recommended.

We are open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6pm.
