Our visit to the caves was full of amazing rock formations and hidden treasures, and it got me thinking about this gorgeous new title that's coming soon!

Yesterday we had an amazing time exploring Big Pit! ⛏️

Going underground, wearing our helmets and head torches, seeing the huge mining machinery and learning how coal was mined really brought geography, history and science to life. It's one thing to read about it, but experiencing it first-hand makes learning unforgettable.

After a day like that, it's the perfect time to keep the conversations going at home with a great information book.

Usborne Geography for Beginners is packed with fascinating facts, colourful illustrations and answers to the kinds of questions curious children ask every day. It explores how our world works, from landscapes and climate to cities, oceans and so much more, making big ideas easy to understand.

Days out like Big Pit remind us that learning doesn't stop when you leave the classroom. Every trip is an opportunity to ask questions, discover something new and then dive even deeper with a brilliant book.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we've now reached 125 sponsored books for our Look for a Book – Summer 2026 campaign! 🎉

Our goal is to beat last year's fantastic total of 146 books, and with your help, I know we can do it!

Every sponsored book will be hidden around our local community for children to discover during the summer holidays, encouraging reading, sharing and plenty of smiles along the way.

From 12th August to 1st September, book packs will be hidden in outdoor locations across Heywood, just waiting to be discovered by local children and families.

Here's how it works:
📖 Find a book.
🏡 Take it home and enjoy reading it together.
💛 Keep it forever or re-hide it for another family to discover.

It's a fantastic way to get outdoors, encourage a love of reading and share the joy of books throughout our community.
