Today we’re celebrating National Cookbook Day by shining a spotlight on our Culinary Director, Mark Greenaway, and his acclaimed cookbook Progression.

Mark joined Langley Castle earlier this year, bringing his award‑winning creativity, field‑to‑fortress philosophy and a fresh culinary vision to our historic 14th‑century castle. Progression reflects the same passion he brings to our kitchens, seasonal ingredients, bold flavours and beautifully crafted dishes that champion the very best of local produce.

We’re delighted to share that Langley Castle Hotel has been shortlisted for Small Hotel of the Year in the North East England Tourism Awards 2027.

As a genuine 14th‑century castle with more than 670 years of history, this recognition means a great deal to our whole team. It reflects the care we put into every stay, from our individually styled castle bedrooms to the warm Northumbrian hospitality our guests return for year after year. It is a fitting achievement in our 40th anniversary year as a hotel, which we have already marked by staging an event that recognised 40 Community Knights and carried out a tree-planting exercise that has added 40 new trees to our extensive grounds.

It also celebrates an exciting new chapter for Langley Castle, following the arrival of Culinary Director Mark Greenaway, whose field‑to‑fortress approach and award‑winning creativity continue to elevate our dining experience.

THE PACKAGE:
Check in starts at 2pm, then you’ll begin with a leisurely fine dining 3-course meal, accompanied by coffee, served at 3-3.30pm pm. This sets the stage for an exciting excursion to Kielder Observatory, with a luxury coach whisking you away at 5:30 pm, travelling through the countryside to view the Northumberland sky, ready to explore the cosmos.

Upon your return to the Castle, a delicious cheeseboard and a snifter will be waiting, providing a perfect way to unwind and discuss the celestial wonders you’ve just witnessed.
