Munich in 20 seconds 🍺🇩🇪

We landed in Munich and headed straight to Augustiner Keller — where a manager ended up giving us a free taste of their Maibock and even let us keep the glasses.

From there we wandered through the old town, beer halls and food markets, eating sausages, pretzels and sauerkraut for breakfast with a Radler in hand.

And honestly?
What stands out most in Munich isn’t just the beer.

It’s the atmosphere.

Busy beer halls full of conversation.
People sitting together for hours.
Beer treated as part of everyday life rather than something rushed.

No gimmicks.
Just proper beer culture done properly.

🍺 **Ice cold Bavarian lager, always pouring.**

Sometimes you don’t need to overcomplicate it.

A cold Paulaner in the courtyard, proper German beer served in the right glass, and a bit of sunshine if Hertford decides to behave itself.

We’re best known for cask ale, and rightly so, but we’ve also built up a cracking range of German and Belgian beers for anyone who fancies something a little different.

Perfect for a summer afternoon at The Old Cross Tavern.

I expected Kölsch to taste like a standard lager… I was completely wrong 🍺🇩🇪

Smooth, floral, lightly hoppy and ridiculously drinkable.

In Cologne they serve it fresh, cold and fast — often from large casks behind the bar — and honestly, the more German beer culture I experience, the more similarities I see with proper British pub culture.

Simple beer.
Served properly.
In pubs built around conversation and atmosphere.
