Our Story

Hello, I’m Carol Jones and in August 2018 I took over Leaf Cafe & Children’s bookshop in Hertford.

For Lockdown 2 I’m resurrecting Storytime Mondays to Fridays. These will be available on our “Listen With Leaf” YouTube channel. They’ve been written by me as I simply didn’t have time to get permissions off publishers to use published authors but hopefully you’ll still enjoy them. They’re scheduled to be available daily at 5.15pm. The first story “The Little Book That Was Scared of the Dark” will be available on Monday 9th November. They will run until Friday December 4th.

I also write cake books as Carol Deacon - The latest - shameless publicity plug warning - : "Carol Deacon's Little Book of Easy Cake Characters" is available from the shop and all good booksellers online or in the flesh (if there are any still operating in the present climate !). I have written thirteen books and also do stuff for magazines or anyone else who approaches me with an interesting proposition. Probably my weirdest cake demonstration was on a cross channel ferry !

Leaf Cafe in Hertford is both a cafe and Children’s book shop so when it came up for sale it provided a wonderful amalgamation of both my interests. I bake some of the cakes for the shop so if you’re ever in the vicinity post Covid - you can sample my famous Madeira cake alongside my killer brownies and flapjacks!
