Next weekend (25th July) we're proud to be one of the venues for the Herne Bay Folk Festival, with FREE live music all day from 11:00am until 4:55pm.

We've got an incredible line-up of talented local musicians performing throughout the day, so whether you pop in for one set or stay for the whole afternoon, there's something for everyone.

🌒 What’s coming in the night sky? ✨

As some of you may know, the “Cosmic” part of The Cosmic Sailor is there for a reason — our owner is an amateur astronomer and astrophotographer, with a real love of the night sky.

And this August, there is quite a lot happening above Herne Bay, so we thought we’d share a little cosmic heads-up.

On Wednesday 12 August 2026, Herne Bay gets a rather special sky show.

First up, a partial solar eclipse will be visible in the early evening, with the Moon taking a huge bite out of the Sun. From Herne Bay, maximum eclipse is around 7:13pm BST, with over 90% obscuration.

Then, after dark, the Perseid Meteor Shower reaches its peak across 12–13 August — one of the best meteor showers of the year, known for bright, fast shooting stars and the occasional fireball.

Look towards the ENE / north-east as the radiant rises, but keep watching the whole sky — meteors can appear anywhere.

Please remember: never look directly at the Sun without proper eclipse glasses.

Good news — The issue has now been sorted, and The Cosmic Sailor is back open again as usual.

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding while we had to stay closed. It was one of those things completely out of our hands, but all is now back on course.

Absolutely blown away by this.

A huge thank you to for creating this brilliant illustration of The Cosmic Sailor. I honestly love everything about it — the humour, the detail, the character, and the way he’s somehow captured the feel of the bar perfectly.

To have something like this drawn specially for me and the pub is a real honour. The Cosmic Sailor was built to be a bit different, a bit quirky, and a place where good drinks, good company and a touch of the unexpected all come together — and this picture absolutely nails it.

I’ll be proudly displaying this one for a long time.

Weekend scorcher incoming? We’ve got you covered. ☀️❄️🍻

We're delighted to welcome Hell 'n Highwaters to The Cosmic Sailor tonight from 7:30pm.

Featuring John, Olly and Helen, this entertaining and quirky local trio bring together guitars, bass, percussion, uke, whistles and probably a few surprises along the way. Expect a lively mix of originals and covers, plenty of laughs and a great evening of live music.
