Ponte Vecchio is a family run trattoria open since 2007 with a small, local feel. We are a husband and wife team with Leo running the front of house and Alice hiding in the heat of the kitchen.

We offer a selection of traditional Italian meals coupled with more modern plates that show off Italian ingredients in an exciting, inventive manner. We change our menu frequently; celebrating the best local and Italian produce we can source. We aim to recreate the passion of the Italian family table, and the charm and atmosphere of our favourite venues in our beloved Florence.

Our time at Ponte Vecchio is now officially over and we welcome Shea and Lara of russethfd to the building.

We are so grateful to them for making these last few weeks feel like a handover to friends rather than a business transaction, and having eaten Shea’s food before, we are looking forward to supporting them in the dining room of 2 Bridge Street. We hope to see many of our customers there enjoying the space in a new, refreshed way.

We have been overwhelmed by your support, words, and acts of kindness and generosity since we announced our intention to close. Ponte Vecchio has been the best and the hardest thing we have ever done as individuals and as a couple. During our tenancy, we married, brought up children, took time to travel and learn about beautiful parts of the UK and Italy, endured a recession and a pandemic, and both suffered significant grief. We are fortunate to leave on an absolute high, and because we chose to. It is no secret that after a very difficult moment in her life, it was Alice who realised her priorities had to change and she is now off to the art college for other creative pursuits and to expand her world outside of the kitchen. I am less clear in what I will do, but hope I will find more work in the city centre and will catch up with many of you in a different setting.

We built Ponte Vecchio from the foundations of my parents’ pizzeria, Firenze, and have loved hosting you all in what has essentially felt like an extension of our dining room. We hope to welcome many of you to our home once we have rested and settled down into our new roles, or indeed to meet in town and go out to enjoy the blossoming gastronomic scene in Hereford.

Finally, I couldn’t finish this post without thanking the most important and often overlooked part of running a family business - all the staff we have ever had; through sweat, blood and tears, you guys have brought so much joy and lightness to our evenings. We couldn’t have managed without your help and enduring friendship.

Thank you for 18 years of enriching and sustaining our lives, and for giving back as much as you received.

Over the years, many of you have admired the art work on our walls: Alice’s photos from our Italy, 6 year old Maddy’s pencil drawings of Florentine landmarks and images of a very young Bruno flipping pizze, to recount a few.

We are taking some home, but others need rehousing and upon hearing that we were shutting, several of you have mentioned taking a memento.

Gelato for sale this evening 5 - 8pm. Cash only please folks.

Our big shut down and clear up has started, so when these flavours have finished, they won’t be replaced. It’s your absolute last chance for Alice’s famous Nutella, but other flavours include treats like raspberry, chocolate brownie and a refreshing cherry elderflower sorbet.

We’ve also got a small selection of wines left that we are happy to sell to take away.

Hello everyone,

A quick update to let you know due to a few behind the scenes delays, we will be trading for the next few weeks and are now taking bookings up until Saturday 20th June. During this time we will only be able to take cash or BACS payments, as our card machine has been disconnected.

Alice is working on one last menu, which will be on the website tomorrow night. Yes the beef will still be available, as will the lamb ragu with smoked ricotta and gremolata. I’m trying my best to persuade her to keep the Venetian spiced cauliflower, but you’ll have to watch this space.

THANK YOU

to everyone who has reached out since yesterday’s post. It has been absolutely bonkers trying to respond to booking requests, and we feel so grateful and absolutely floored that quite so many of you are trying to come and see us.

We are now full for sit down meals each weekend until we close but we might still be able to fit in a few takeaways.

🍝 If you’d like to book to sit down or have a takeaway, there are weekday slots remaining, including this evening.

While Leo is busy managing the diary today, Alice is in the kitchen prepping what might be the very last batch of everyone’s favourite - her 16 hour beef short rib ragu. This is a kitchen task that Alice has been undertaking every fortnight for at least 10 years. Nothing has ever matched it in popularity or compliments and the sudden realisation that it’s not ever going to be made again, is quite a momentous one. Crikey.

Dear friends,

As many of you are aware, earlier in the year, we made the decision to put Ponte Vecchio on the market.

It’s time to let you know that we are now entering the last few weeks of trading, and while there is no confirmed final date, we are not taking bookings after Saturday May 23rd.
We will let you know if we are able to trade after this date, but in the meantime, if you’d like to have a last supper with us, please text me 07813109449 to book a table.
