Fleur De Lys, Lowsonford

Fleur De Lys, Lowsonford A beautiful village country pub on the Stratford canal, famous for pies & bursting with character. For us, a lovely country pub is all about the atmosphere.
(1351)

Nestled in the picturesque village of Lowsonford, on the banks of the Stratford Canal, between winding country roads that used to be part of the Forest of Arden, The Fleur De Lys is the very best kind of country pub. Packed full of quaint charm and quirky corners beneath its C16th wooden beams, The Fleur is a cosy haven in the winter and an extensive paradise in the summer. Whether it’s a smiling face behind the bar or the cosiness of a roaring log fire, we think you should feel like you can stick around for as long as you like. It’s not a gastropub. It’s not a restaurant. It’s not a bar & kitchen. The Fleur De Lys is quite simply a quintessentially English country pub full of old world charm, and that’s just the way we like it.

I’m so sorry, but it’s time to talk about Christmas.

I thought I’d save you another generic poster generated by ChatGPT that looks like every other poster at the moment and use my actual face and my real voice to tell you about the very special evenings we’ve got planned with , , & .

Make sure you save this post to remind you to get tickets & tag the gang you want to bring along!

Is September sunshine your favourite, too?

It’s been a bit of an Indian summer this week & we love that people are still getting use out of the b**r garden. AND, most excitingly, the canal appears to be open again! So good to see narrow boats drifting past at the bottom of the garden once more.

This coming week we’re launching a new menu refresh and ramping up prep for our Halloween Fireworks Spectacular…oh, there are less than 100 tickets left for that if you were thinking about coming, by the way.

Hope you have a magnificent week ahead and that a pie is in your very near future. 🤗

Well, that’s another week completed here at the Fleur De Lys, taking the total up to 648 weeks since we got the keys to this place back in 2014. Time flies when you’re selling pies! And burgers, obviously.

This week does seem to have gone by in a flash, though. September is a funny month catching up with the carnage of the summer but also having to go full steam ahead on planning for autumn and Christmas. It’s a real whiplash, we can tell ya!

Anyway, thanks so much for keeping us busy and stand by for the big Fireworks Night Ticket Drop on Thursday…we’ll show those Oasis lads how to sell tickets properly 😜

Top secret news: we’ve lost our minds and purchased more Halloween decor and ephemera than a little country pub has any right to, but we are pretty excited about our upcoming Spooky Spectacular.

For those of you who missed a beat, we now incorporate our annual traditional fireworks night with Halloween so that we can have twice as much fun.

Tickets go on sale on 1st October and usually sell out within 24 hours. If you want first dibs on them, you need to be on our mailing list as our loyal subscribers get priority access.

So if you want to see what our little Halloween demons have been plotting and planning, make sure you get your tickets and join us on 31st October. Dressing up is optional (but so, so worth it…)

In case you’re new around here, we thought we’d introduce you to your new favourite cosy country pub. 👋

We’re the Fleur De Lys in a sleepy little Warwickshire village called Lowsonford. We have the Stratford-Upon-Avon canal running along the bottom of our acre of b**r garden & a myriad of stunning countryside walks in whichever direction you set off from the pub.

We’re famous for our award-winning pies, we’re beloved for our children’s playground and we stock a few pretty tasty drinks too. Sometimes we do big events, sometimes we do little events, sometimes we host your whole family and sometimes we’re just a quick pitstop on your way through to somewhere else.

We’re big on warm welcomes and honouring our 16th century heritage. We’re less interested in pretensions or microherbs or skipping dessert.

Mainly, we’d love to see you here soon for a coffee, a b**r, a chat or a rant. Whatever brings you through the door, we’re looking forward to your next visit.

As we step tentatively towards the end of summer, we're excited for the events coming up here at the Fleur De Lys over the next couple of months, including a couple of things we've never tried before but think you'll love!

🎀 Mon 7th Sept: Dads and lads unite for an evening of b**r and braids! Join hair guru Emily Smith from Hair at Hatton for a crash course in ponytails, plaits & how to get your daughters back-to-school ready without pulling out all their hair.

🚲 Thurs 10th Sept: Bike enthusiasts can start and end a guided cycle ride at The Fleur, riding through the beautiful Warwickshire countryside with Matt from Un-Boxed Adventures before enjoying our delicious award-winning pies for lunch.

💻 Mon 5th Oct: The PR powerhouse known as Chalmers News PR returns to The Fleur this Autumn for an evening workshop guiding small business owners through the optimal techniques to get businesses featured and stories picked up in the press.

👻 Sat 31st Oct: Join us for our annual spectacle of fireworks, fire eaters, fire performers, fiery food and er...live music. We've got all sorts of spooky and spectacular fun lined up, tickets go on sale from 1st October so don't forget to put a reminder in your calendars now!

This one is for the history buffs and nerds out there! Whilst researching something completely unrelated, I was filled with joy to stumble on this piece in the Leamington Courier from 1985. Can you spot your favourite Lowsonford b**r garden amongst the village's other landmarks and legends?

If you'd like to see more of these treasures, do go and disappear down the rabbit hole of https://rowingtonrecords.com which is always my go-to when I need local or historical information. There's so many gems in those archives, dating back centuries, preserving a legacy of countryside life.

We didn't realise how lonely we'd feel without the passing trade of the canal, but it's been a couple of weeks since our stretch of the Stratford-Upon-Avon canal has been closed due to the drought. We're missing the gentle hum of engines as the boats float past, the sound of voices wafting along the cut, the calls of salutations of boaters passing in the lock...

We can't imagine how many summer holidays were spoiled or boaters stranded whilst the poor old canal network struggled, but we sure will be glad when everything goes back to normal!
