READMAN CUP FINAL

An outstanding bowling display carried Darlington to their first ever Readman Cup success in the final played at Stokesley on Monday evening.
Batting first the home team got off to a decent enough start but when the first wicket fell with the score on 41 it created a domino effect with all ten wickets going down for just 71 more runs. Usman Azeem, with 3-20 and youngster Syed Haque (4-17) proved a real thorn in Stokesley’s side and aided by some outstanding fielding the Quakers had their hosts back in the hutch for 112.

The Readman is the primary cup competition for Division Two teams and with Darlington equal top of that division at the moment their dominance was confirmed as they raced to a seven wicket victory in just 14.2 overs, Oli Clark (37 from 26 balls) laying the foundations before Azeem (27 not out) was joined by Haque who smashed an unbeaten 29 from only 11 balls, his contribution with bat and ball earning him the Player of the Match award.

The awards, hosted by League President Chris West, were presented by Gary Readman, the former Great Ayton player and an NYSD Hall of Famer who’s family donated the trophy to the League for annual competition 40 years ago.
