I got asked today why Iām starting Crumb & get it⦠so hereās the storyā¦.
What started as something smallāsomething deeply personalāhas grown into something I never expected.
During my chemo journey, I needed a way to cope. I began giving out little āpocket hugsā to strangersātiny reminders that someone sees you, that you matter. One day, I gave one to a lady sitting alone outside the hospital. A week later, she found her way back to me! She told me she had been sitting there, overwhelmed and ready to give up⦠and that small moment of kindness stopped her. Then another lady that had received one just at the right time.. it inspired her sister to make little gift bags to give to those going through treatment! Kindness was spreading and That stayed with me. It changed everything.
Chemo can be an incredibly isolating experience. You donāt feel like yourself. For me, even food became difficultāuntil I realised that soft, sweet treats like cupcakes and cheesecakes were something I could still enjoy. So I made some. Just a small batch at first. I took them into the unit and gave them out for free⦠and they were gone within minutes.
But more than thatāit was the smiles. The conversations that started between strangers. The brief moments where people felt human again, even in the middle of something so hard.
So I kept going.
Now I bring over 100 treats each time, and every visit reminds me why I started. The hugs, the thank yous, the quiet moments of connection⦠they mean everything.
This business isnāt just about cakes. Itās about kindness, connection, and creating small moments of light when people need them most.
And Iām not ready to stop.
