Tonight we featured on bbc look north to cover the story on how much damage they have caused to our buisness through negligence and poor organisation by and Council they claimed to have helped us but not done nowhere near enough to help us out !!!! We would like to address a statement made by Calderdale Council in tonight’s ITV News report.
They have suggested they are supporting our restaurant — this is simply not true.
The only assistance provided has been a reduction in business rates from £6,000 to £5,000, along with an offer to clean our windows, after 10 months of severe disruption to our business.
Works will begin this Tuesday, with the entire path outside our restaurant being dug up again. Previous works have already caused flooding in our kitchen due to poor ex*****on.
This is not support, and it is important that the reality is clear.

While we’ve had some interaction from the parties involved, we are still far from a resolution. We’ve been reading about business rate reductions, but we haven't received official word on the amounts or specific actions taken yet. We promise to keep you all informed as things progress. Owners of Halifax restaurant say roadworks 'nightmare' has cost them around £60,000

Enough is enough. 📢

We want to give a "huge" thank you to the Council and Galliford Try for seemingly doing everything in their power to shut us down. After nearly a year of being boxed in, we have reached our breaking point.

Since this project started, we have dealt with:
🚫 Our fire exit and disabled access being blocked three times.
📉 Massive losses in takings due to missed completion dates and zero communication.
🌪️ Constant dust and dirt ruining our environment.
🌊 The final straw: Our kitchen flooded last night. We were here until 4 AM with Yorkshire Water, who confirmed the flooding was caused directly by the poor workmanship on the council project outside.

To top it all off, despite the massive loss in trade they’ve caused, we’ve just received a business rates bill that has DOUBLED, along with the bill for the Halifax BID.

How are we expected to pay doubled rates when the Council is actively blocking our customers from entering and flooding our kitchen? We are a local business trying to survive, but these conditions are making it impossible.

Halifax Roadworks: Is this acceptable?

After 7 months of being blocked off and dealing with endless "mistakes" from the contractors, the pathway around the restaurant is finally open. However, this is the view our customers are greeted with—blocked signs and messy windows.

What do you think? Should the council/contractors be held responsible for making sure a business is presentable when they "finish" a section, or is an apology enough?
