As part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of our Tickled Pink breast cancer charity campaign Sam is taking on a "triple no ni**le challenge" to raise awareness and inspire people to check themselves.

At 19, Sam was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma and underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy to her chest. While the treatment saved her life, radiotherapy increased their risk of developing breast cancer later in life. She underwent a risk reduction double mastectomy in April 2025 and says that for her, it was the right decision. Now 32, she has tackled the London Marathon, Chase the Sun, a 205-mile cycle ride between sunrise and sunset, and a two-mile Swim Serpentine challenge in London – raising money for our charity partner CoppaFeel!. Sam took on all of her three challenges topless to start conversations, challenge perceptions and show that her body is strong and valid.

She said: "It's liberating! I'm doing them all topless to show off the scars. I want people to be able to advocate for themselves, go to the GP and, seeing my chest, think, 'I should probably check my chest, there's a bit of a lump, go get it checked out. I don't want to get scars like that.' I think it's beautiful, this survivor's body I live in and I'm really proud of it. But I know there'll be some people that feel differently, they might see that and go "I should get that little lump checked" and that's what I'm doing. I've lived through all that rubbish so that I can try and turn it into something good. I wanted to do something bold and brave and give people an opportunity to see it."

Sam also has a message for Asda customers: "Happy 30th birthday to Tickled Pink. What you guys have been doing over the years is amazing. I've been seeing that messaging since I was a kid and you know when Asda turns pink everybody knows about it. It's such a great platform to raise that awareness and raise that message and get people checking their chests and advocating for themselves and raising money for vital things like Breast Cancer Now and everything they do and CoppaFeel! and everything they do. So thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!"

"Being a man and hearing the words 'you've got breast cancer' is a proper, proper shock" – the words of Asda customer Darren, who's a big advocate for our Tickled Pink campaign.

Darren is a regular at our Cannock store's Tickled Pink events raising money and awareness for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel!. He's always happy to chat to customers and colleagues about his experience and offer advice to anyone who needs it. He was diagnosed with grade two invasive ductal cancer in June 2023 after his wife Fiona felt a lump in his chest when he was lying down. She is registered blind and has a heightened sense of touch.

Darren said: "It was just a massive shock. I'd heard of men getting breast cancer, but hadn't really taken it in. It's something like 55,000 woman a year in the UK get breast cancer, for men it's less than 400. It is rare, but it does happen. I think in a way I've been really lucky as from finding my lump to my op it was only six weeks. I am one of the very lucky few who haven't had to have chemotherapy or radiotherapy, I'm just on Tamoxifen for five years."

Asda Cannock community champion Sue said: "It's great having Darren at our events, where he's able to give a male perspective on breast cancer. It really brings it home that breast cancer doesn't discriminate, both men and women can get it."

"Breast friends" Julie, Helen and Pauline from Asda Thornaby are at the heart of the store’s Tickled Pink activity as it celebrates its 30th anniversary. 🎀

They've all had breast cancer and, after recovering well, are using their own experiences to help customers and colleagues recognise the signs and symptoms of breast cancer – raising tens of thousands of pounds for charity partners Breast Cancer Now and CoppaFeel! in the process. 💗

Helen said: "Tickled Pink is amazing and I feel proud to be involved. For me it's all about community spirit and raising awareness and it's come such a long way in 30 years. I hope in the future that everyone will be able to survive breast cancer. Early diagnosis is the key and that's what Tickled Pink is all about.

Congratulations to the Queenway Centre for Over 55s who received an Asda Foundation grant for £500.

It's a lovely place which is always open for people who have no one to talk to and live alone. They meet up here for a cup of tea and a chatter. It's all run by people who have retired and volunteer their time. Well done, ladies, keep up the good work.– Gay, Asda community champion

💗 This year, Sam took on running, cycling and swimming challenges to help raise awareness for CoppaFeel!

After being diagnosed with cancer at 19 and later undergoing a double mastectomy, Sam chose to celebrate her body and encourage others to know their normal.

We're honoured that Sam shared her story as part of Tickled Pink.💕

The Tickled Pink awareness posters displayed in our St Leonards-on-Sea store played a huge part in our colleague Donna's decision to check herself – and when she did she found a small lump in her breast which turned out to be cancerous.

Seeing those reminders every day helped her to recognise what to look out for and encouraged her to take action. In August last year Donna, who's 46, found a tiny lump, less than a centimetre, just under her ni**le. At first, she thought it might be a harmless cyst, something that would disappear on its own, but after a few days it remained so, with a gentle nudge from her partner, John, she made the decision to visit her GP. A mammogram and biopsies were carried out, and within three weeks she found out she had Stage 1 breast cancer. In October, she underwent a full mastectomy, along with the removal of four lymph nodes under her arm, and then started chemotherapy. She's since made a great recovery and has returned to work.

Donna said: "My mum had breast cancer at about the same age as me so I was kind of aware, but I'm one those people who think everything's okay and never go to a doctor. I see all the Tickled Pink stuff at work every day. The posters are everywhere, even the toilets. You can't miss them. Their message worked as it made me very aware, and so I thought I'd better check myself. I'd like to think that a lot of our customers are seeing the messages too and checking themselves. The earlier you catch things, the easier it is to deal with it. Thankfully I caught mine early, so it was relatively easy to get rid of.

"Tickled Pink is a great charity and it's brilliant in raising awareness. I've always supported Tickled Pink in the store and worn the T shirts, we all do here. Our community champion Wendy always makes sure we are up for it."

A huge thank you to everyone who's been rallying to support people affected by the devastating fires.

Community champion Kirsty from our Brierley Hill store has been delivering donations of food and making sandwiches for emergency service personnel who have been dealing with the devastating fires in nearby Stourbridge.

When Kirsty heard that the Wollescote St Andrew's Scout Group, near her home, was being used as a 'wellness hub' for first responders such as police officers, paramedics and firefighters, she sprung into action and dashed to her store to get supplies to make sandwiches and bottles of water too.

Asda Halesowen manager Matt has also visited the hub to donated goods and supplies. Kirsty said: "We just wanted to do our bit to help the helpers. Other businesses are helping out too. The fires have been devastating. Colleagues in our stores are all thinking of those affected. The hut's about 15 minutes Stourbridge and we can see the smoke from the fires. It's devastating."

I have been working with Breast Cancer Now for a few months including doing a video for their website about breast cancer, so I was delighted when Kayleigh got in touch and asked if we could support her with some cakes for her bake sale to raise money for BCN.

Thank you, Sue!

Thank you, Sue!

"If we could bottle up Sue we'd make a fortune" – that's what Asda Halesowen store manager Matthew said about bakery colleague Sue who's been getting some brilliant feedback from her happy customers.

Four different customers have been in touch with Matthew in recent weeks to let him know how much they appreciate her. He said: "Sue really takes Happy to Help as a personal brand, and lives and breathes the values, building great rapport with our customers, and lasting relationships with regular customers. It takes something really special for a customer to seek out the manager to give great feedback about one of our colleagues. It takes something exceptional for that to have happened four times in four weeks from different customers."

Sue said: "I love my job and I'm very passionate about what I do: I like to have the displays looking good. The customers here are great and I get on really well with them. I have some who will personally come and find me for their fresh bread. I'm always happy to help whenever I can, and I look after customers as best I can. I feel like I'm at home here – it's a very friendly place to work."
