The family has been in catering for over 50 years; Jim Findlay managed the successful bistro between 1982 and 2002. The restaurant and bar was back in the family in June 2017 and is now run by son James Findlay along with the family and an experienced professional team.

Our talented chefs always have something special up their sleeves, and this Christmas is no exception :)

Here’s a little preview of one of the starters on our festive menu: golden breaded goat’s cheese with orange and chilli marmalade. It’s a lovely way to begin an evening around the table with friends, family or colleagues.

Our Christmas menu will be available from Friday 27 November, and we’d love to celebrate with you at The Waterside.

Come for lunch or dinner, but make sure you leave a little room for desser :)

Our crisp meringue is topped with refreshing pineapple sorbet, smooth mango purée and coconut cream. A lovely combination of delicate crunch, creamy coconut and bright tropical fruit flavours.

Who would happily finish their meal with this?

When the weather is kind, take a seat outside and enjoy the view across the River Tyne. If you’re lucky, you might even spot one of our familiar faces.
The swans are not our only feathered visitors.
We also have a friendly goose who often paddles past the Waterside. :) ☀️

A closer look at one of the delicious main courses on our menu.

King prawn linguine served with roasted vine tomatoes in a creamy sauce infused with fresh lemon, garlic and chilli, then finished with parsley.
A comforting pasta dish with juicy prawns, a little freshness from the lemon and just the right touch of warmth from the chilli.

Hands up, who thinks this sounds absolutely delicious? ☺️

Roasted heritage beetroot is served with smooth whipped feta, lavender honey dressing, candied walnuts and peppery watercress.

The sweetness of the beetroot and honey works beautifully with the salty feta, while the walnuts add a lovely crunch.

Sunshine, full tables and plates bursting with colour.

Another beautiful day at The Waterside Bistro! ☀️

Guests have been making the most of the gorgeous weather, enjoying delicious food and the relaxed riverside atmosphere.

One of the main courses on our current menu is grilled yoghurt marinated chicken supreme, served with chorizo, potatoes, mojo rojo, garlic aioli, tomatoes and olives.

It is a beautifully colourful dish full of distinctive flavours.
