Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman have long established themselves as one of British folk music's most rewardingly enduring partnerships. The Dartmoor-based husband and wife have twice won the coveted 'Best Duo' title at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, as well as 'Best Duo' at the Folking.com awards and Spiral Earth awards. They consistently deliver assured, distinctive performances whether live or recorded. In three decades of performance they have never been trapped in a groove - always bold and innovative, mixing traditional song arrangements with their self-penned material which reels from the bitter to the sweet, the wry to the sad, the political to the passive.

Sunday October 4th at 8pm, we present a Zoom evening for anyone to either perform songs, poems and tunes or just listen. Email Mary at [email protected] for a code for zoom. Because of the cost of room hire, we are having to conduct our club singers nights on zoom for the foreseeable future. Everyone welcome to join in.

Gordon Tyrrall and Barbara Mainland gave us a splendid evening with some lovely songs accompanied by guitar and fiddle. Barbara is originally from Orkney and gave us a real flavour of the islands with some wonderful Orkney tunes. The evening began with some ballads well sung by Arthur Knevett and the second half continued with a first time visit from another accomplished ballad singer from Cornwall, Graham O'Callaghan. We also had a couple of songs from John Conolly who lightened the mood with a very funny song involving a dog and a microwave. (Please do not try this at home!)
Next week we are singing on zoom. The following week, October 11th, we have the fantastic Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman. Tickets are still available. Contact Mary on [email protected].

Please share. Should be a great night, please come along, everyone welcome.

We had a brilliant start to the Autumn season in our new home with our wonderful guests, The John Ward Trio. They gave us two excellent sets with a mix of John's own songs occasionally interspersed with other contemporary and traditional songs. Their voices blend so well with their powerful, 3 part harmonies. Ian Skelton started the evening off well with a selection of contemporary songs including a new one of his own and Arthur Knevett opened the second half with a couple of traditional songs.
Hope to get a good turnout again for next week when we have Gordon Tyrrall and Barbara Mainland.
