NUMBER 9.
We’ve just been named 9th in The Good Food Guide’s Top 100 Local Restaurants in the UK.
9th. In the whole country?!
I’m still completely baffled by what we’ve managed to achieve in this restaurant’s first year.
For a little independent restaurant in Glossop, this means everything. It’s proof that meaningful hospitality isn’t just reserved for the big cities. You can build something special in a town like ours, and people will travel for it.

To everyone who’s chosen to spend an evening with us, thank you. Every booking, every recommendation and every kind word has helped us get here. The challenges facing independent hospitality are well documented, and your support means more than ever. Every time you choose an independent restaurant, you’re helping places like ours continue to exist.

To our suppliers - we simply couldn’t do it without you. Everything starts with the incredible produce you put in our hands, and we’re lucky to work with the very best.

A huge thanks has to go to The Pack Horse team, who soldier on in the face of adversity without having me around as much as I or they would like- their hard work and commitment to the cause is what’s enabled me to do this in the first place.

And to this team… crikey, what a rollercoaster it’s been. We’ve hunkered down through cut hours and empty midweek services, then ridden the madness that came with Michelin and The Sunday Times. Through every twist and turn you’ve stayed completely locked into this project. You’ve believed in it from day one, and that means more to me than any accolade ever could.

I’m unbelievably lucky to have the people around me that I do. My close friends, family, industry colleagues, Mum, Dad and Frankie in particular - you’ve never stopped believing in me. You’ve been patient, unwavering in your support, and you’ve carried me through some really tough days, often when you knew exactly how hard things had become. This belongs to you every bit as much as it does to me.

For now, though, we’re just going to enjoy this moment and take stock of the fact that the 9th best local restaurant in the UK is right here in Glossop.

We’ve got a new cavatelli garnish this week- confit Isle of Wight tomatoes, preserved wild garlic & sunflower seed pesto, finished with spoons of Westcombe ricotta, and a glug of very good olive oil

In case you missed it, we featured in Manchester’s Finest over the weekend!

We’re so proud of all that this little restaurant has achieved in almost a year of opening- but more importantly, that it’s become a restaurant with context- whether that’s evoking memories of guest’s childhood feasts through flavour or our vintage crockery, or relaxing at our bar with a wine or cocktail watching the world go by, we think that’s all quite special, and exactly what a good restaurant should be. Happy heritage weekend Glossop!
We’re in a prime spot for a pit stop for those visiting the town this weekend- and as a restaurant that prides itself on its unashamedly traditional approach to British cuisine, what better time to drop in for our two heritage signatures- minced beef on dripping toast, and orbs of joy. We’re also serving our own recipe house Cups (Pimm’s before it went commercial) and homemade lemonade, a perfect respite for a quick half hour away from the madness with our whole bar space free for walk-ins, and bookings also still being taken as usual.

For those joining us this weekend, please be aware there are some restrictions on access into the centre of Glossop, so it’s worth leaving an extra 15 minutes of journey time to get around the diversions.
