We’re launching The Buffalo Farm SCARECROW COMPETITION!

And we want your pupils, classes, clubs and community groups to get those creative ideas flowing…

Your challenge is simple:

BUILD A SCARECROW!

Make it funny, fabulous, spooky, spectacular or completely bonkers 😂 — as long as it can be securely fixed to one of our posts and is ready to take its place in our scarecrow field by 9th October.

🌾 We can even provide the straw!

And here’s the best bit…

Every school class or community group that creates a scarecrow we can display in our field will receive up to 35 FREE TICKETS to our Pumpkins, Pygmies & Piggies event, starting 10th October! 🎃🐐🐷

But there can only be ONE overall winner… 👀

The winning class/group will receive a private behind-the-scenes farm experience in spring — meeting the animals here at Boglily AND getting a special visit to our Buffalo Dairy Farm to see another side of life at The Buffalo Farm. 🐃

❤️ LITTLE HEADS UP GUYS! ❤️

We’ve had a really busy day today and have managed to run out of a fair few things — so firstly, thank you! 🥰

We’re going to close up at 5pm tonight rather than start re-prepping everything with only just over an hour of the day left.

A lot of what we do is made and prepared fresh, so re-prepping everything now would basically mean losing a full day of freshness on those items tomorrow — and potentially creating unnecessary waste, which we really don’t want to do.

We’d much rather call it a little earlier tonight, get ourselves reset and come back tomorrow with everything freshly prepped, stocked back up and ready to go! ❤️

Thank you so much for keeping us busy today and for understanding. 🥰

Fresh is fresh — and we’d rather run out than compromise on it. ❤️

🌸🥧 A WEE PIECE OF GRANNY… 🥧🌸

Some of the food we make at Scran Fae Scratch has a story behind it — but our Chicken & Bacon Pie is particularly close to my heart. ❤️

Growing up, we were incredibly close. My grandad worked offshore, so I spent a lot of time with my Granny — and naturally, plenty of that time was spent in the kitchen. 🥰

She taught me so much about cooking, and I don’t think I realised back then just how much of what she was teaching me would stay with me throughout my life.

One of the things my Granny taught me was how to make Chicken & Bacon Pie. 🥧 And there’s one wee memory of it that still makes me smile…

Whenever I was poorly, my wee Granny would make the chicken & bacon filling extra saucy. Instead of giving me the pie, she’d put all that gorgeous creamy sauce and chicken into a bowl and pass it off as Cream of Chicken Soup. 😂🥣❤️

Something you also might not know…

That wee bowl Granny used to make me when I was poorly was actually the inspiration behind the Cream of Chicken Soup we now make and sell at Scran Fae Scratch. 🥣✨

All these years later, we’re still making the Chicken & Bacon Pie too — freshly prepared using lean chicken breast and bacon medallions, with plenty of that lovely creamy sauce and a beautiful golden pastry top. 🥧❤️

Sadly, we lost my granny in October 2012, but her influence has never really left my kitchen.

She’s actually part of our wee shop in another very special way. 🌸

When we designed the front of Scran Fae Scratch, we asked the incredibly talented Shona Hardie to create our floral mural, incorporating some of my wee Granny’s favourite flowers into the design.

So when you see all those big, colourful flowers covering the front of our shop, they’re not simply decoration.

They’re a wee tribute to her. ❤️

I love the thought that her flowers are on the outside of our shop, while some of the recipes and things she taught me are still being made on the inside. 🥹🌸

There are little pieces of Granny woven throughout Scran Fae Scratch. ❤️

I couldn’t be prouder to keep a little bit of what she taught me going.

This one’s for you, Granny. 🌸🥧❤️

Sadly wee lost my Grandad 3years ago last month. He was my absolute rock. Was also the reason I purchased the bench that sits outside the shop as I wanted to make it a memorial bench for them both. ☺️

❤️🏡 HOMEMADE FOOD, HAND-STAMPED PACKAGING

You might have noticed the Scran Fae Scratch logo appearing on our takeaway bags and containers — but they’re not printed, and they’re not stickers…

We stamp them ourselves, by hand. 🥰

When we first started, we looked at having branded stickers made for all of our packaging. But when you realise just how many bags, boxes and containers a wee food business goes through, the cost of constantly replacing stickers soon adds up! 😳

So we decided to do things a little differently…

We invested in 3 custom stamps, an ink pad, stamp cleaner and some top-up ink — and unbelievably, nearly a YEAR later, they’re still going strong! 🙌

And actually, we’ve grown to absolutely love doing it this way. ❤️

Every stamp isn’t necessarily identical. Some might be a little darker, a little lighter or have that slightly imperfect stamped finish…

But that’s part of the charm. 🥰

It gives our packaging that homely, rustic, hand-finished feel that we think fits Scran Fae Scratch perfectly.

We’re not trying to look mass-produced.

We’re a wee independent business making food, packing orders and quite literally putting our own stamp on them before they leave the shop. ❤️

🌱 AND THERE’S ANOTHER WEE BONUS…

By stamping our packaging rather than using individual branded stickers, we’re also avoiding all those rolls of stickers, backing paper and additional packaging that we’d otherwise be continually buying and throwing away.

We’re certainly not claiming it’s perfect, but if something as simple as a reusable stamp and a little ink can help us create less unnecessary waste while saving our wee business money at the same time, we’ll happily take that as a win. ♻️🥰

Sometimes it’s the simplest ideas that end up becoming part of your identity.
