🤎 OUR WEE TEAM 🤎

Went to work today, some feeling nervous! Could they get home ok?

Sitting now we’re felt with warmth after a night of worry, we’ve had a full day of trading, our team are home safe and it was so lovely having so much support today 💕

We put a post up last night, which literally came from the heart after putting the kids to bed and we couldn’t believe what we woke up to, Belfast Live in first thing this morning looking an interview! Sorry not happening asked for help when we first opened 7 years ago and twas refused, a business that opened and instantly placed into lockdown.

To all our amazing regulars just coming in to show us support today 🙌🏻, that has just showed us that we really are a community that just wants what’s best for our wee families and our locals. A family within 4 walls.

Going to bed tonight feeling a little overwhelmed from our wee team, customers and a bigger understanding of what we all want out of all of this 🤎🤎

TOMORROW!

We have made the decision that tomorrow we will open for business as usual all day.

We can’t sustain the closures to keep up with our expenses, our team will be kept safe. Scott and I will work where our team can’t, but if we close for another day we literally won’t be able to continue to trade, we’re a small family business that already pays so much to our government that it’s very difficult a small profit as it is.

We have just paid a massive VAT bill and have a lot of other outgoings and if we don’t continue to trade as usual unfortunately The Wee Bistro will not be able to trade, we will have 26 staff out of work and a premises that we’ve have developed back to where it started.

We get it and why it’s happening but there has to be a better way, and unfortunately at this stage we have 26 employees livelihoods to think of and our own family of 6 to feed and keep and a roof over our head.

This is the reality a small business relies on day to day trading we don’t have millions on reserve for these things occurring! Times are hard as it is and we have no choice but to trade as we have been.

Let us do this to save 26 jobs, to save our family income and ensure we have a income to live 🤎

Over the next few days as things hopefully calm down we ask support your local shops, bars and restaurants as they are the ones that have suffered, while Tescos and corporation companies have remained open 🥲

Our slogans are a big hit with not only our tourists but our lovely regulars so we thought this would be a nice wee keep sake/ T shirt for day-to-day, The Gym or if your like me PJ’s lol 🤎🤎

With more road closures & planned protests expected later on, we need to ensure our staff can get home safe.

Here’s hoping for a more peaceful evening and we can get back to normal trading hours tomorrow.

We will re-open tomorrow at 8am for brekkie and £10 lunch menu from 12 🥰

Let’s make it fair!

Drive a few miles down the road where food VAT is a lovely 9% and we’re charged 20% on everything sold and no VAT claim as 90% of the food we purchase is Zero VAT.

VAT is added when it’s heated or becomes a luxury.

Signing this will do so much for the economy
- Save jobs
- keep consumer costs down
- Keep our hospitality alive

Atm our Government are taking such a chuck before wages, paye, pensions, electric, gas and general day to day operation costs that we will only see more and more venues close for good.

If we can all join together to stop this before hospitality is a thing of the past.

Our pubs, restaurants, cafes, hotels, nightclubs and many more, are at the heart of our communities but they are struggling.

We all bring people together and bring life to our cities, towns and villages, but we’re under huge pressure from rising costs.

In the UK, we pay one of the highest VAT rates in Europe. 20% extra in VAT for your pint, meal out or night away. In France, Spain and Italy, it's 10%. In Germany 7%.. the Republic of Ireland is moving to 9% for food on July 1st - we’ll be more than double that.

Our message to Government is simple. Let's stand together to say VAT at 10% is fair for hospitality.
