Wolf. Black Wolf
6Β½/10

Lured to this slightly out of the way Spoons for this supposed blackcurrant flavoured Wolf beer.
A tenfold improvement on the Norwich Wolf beers.
Fresh on, but blackcurrrant heavily disguised.
Potentially sessionable...

Jurassic Durdle Door 5% abv

Delightfull ale, smooth. Hints of caramel and marmalade
Rarely see Jurassic Ales here.
Their website says it Rarely leaves Dorset, and even gives tips on how you travel there wherever you are in hhe UK,
Then another page gives a hint as to where you may find it locally, though this Wetherspoon isn't one of the places.
Not showing on the app, but delighted it turned up

After having slagged off the Bell Hotel here in Norwich and informing the shift manager that one of her ales was akin to malt vinegar, I find myself back at the Queen of Iceini Spoons by the river, where my beloved Spoons has redeemed themselves.🀨

After an afternoon of trying to find some CAMRA Good Beer Guide pubs that were actually open on a Monday, and having found some, I'm so pleased to be back in Wetherspoons.

Norfolk is similar to the Isle of Wight.😯
All non-Spoon pubs seem to want to dispense their cask ales from short spouts with no sparklers.
Net result?
Flat and lifeless ale.
That follows a trend which has been my misfortune of experiencing here in Alan Partridge country!

Just to get back to the Queen of Iceini Spoons in Norwich...
Norfolk is neighbouring Suffolk where I think Abbot is brewed.
Abbot has a distinct smell and taste when it's fresh and I've certainly relived that pleasant experience here.
This pint of Abbot outperforming all those CAMRA Good Beer Guide pubs that just can't (or don't want toπŸ€”) seem to serve a pint of real ale with a nice creamy head.πŸ˜’

All ales lifeless and in very poor condition.
The quasimodo style statue in the pub is either trying to ring a bell or trying to flee from the really p**s poor beer.🀨

Wolf Lavender Honey

Way way way over hoppy.
Can't even detect a taste of any honey.
A mere hint of honey through the nose.😏
Disappointing start to my Norwich crawl.πŸ˜’

Globe Hotel. King's Lynn

Bishop Nick. Divine
8/10

Gave this fine ale a 9/10, 5 years ago in Kilmarnock Spoons.
This offering not quite as spectacular but still thoroughly enjoyable.
80% of a pint, I know...
Just a faint hint of toffee and caramel.

Doncaster - The other Spoons!

Mr Grundy's. 1914
5Β½/10

The other interesting ale that I'd never seen before.
Another flat and insipid offering with hints of chocolate and blackcurrant.
This will have more to do with this Spoons' dispense method, where they've clearly vented most of the life out of the barrel.πŸ€”

As an aside, a relative I'm travelling with gives this beer 1½/10.😯

I hope things pick up in Norfolk.😌

The Gate House. Doncaster

Keltek. Pilot Gig
5/10
A go to beer that I went to go and have a pint of!
It looked really nice to begin with but then went very flat very quickly.
Never sure if that's because of the beer or detergent in the glass...

Angel Inn - Wetherby

Bradfield World Cup Ale
7/10

Blonde but not overly hoppy.
Sessionable if you're of the mind that Old P and Plum Porter are not summer beers.πŸ€”πŸ˜―

En route to Great Yarmoth via a stop over tonight in Doncaster, so there could be more reviews from deepest darkest Norfolk, dependant on finding new, exciting, regional ales.πŸ€”πŸ§

Having tasted all the Scottish festival ales that took my fancy, I may drift round to the Counting House now for a can of Fierce Iron Brew!
It IS one of the festival cans on the festival leaflet.
At least then, I'm positioned for my bus home.🧐
