The cooler days are closing in and winter is just around the corner which can only mean one thing: ice cream sundaes and hot chocolate season!

If you ever visited us in our early days at Dockyard Social, you'll remember our popular Brownie Sundae! A hot homemade Brownie with a scoop of your choice, topped with vegetarian toasted mallow and smothered in our house hot chocolate fudge sauce. 😋

Toni, one of our Shift Managers, was riffing puns one day and casually dropped "Jen & Berry's" and immediately I screamed!

"YES! Let's do a bootleg Ben & Jerry's week!!!"

And honestly, it feels like the perfect excuse to take a little trip down memory lane.

I still remember when Cookie Dough first hit grocery stores in Canada in the ’90s. I couldn’t believe it...other people liked eating cookie dough too?!?

It felt like a revelation. And Ben & Jerry’s went on to revolutionise the ice cream aisle, turning ridiculously chunky, gooey, over-the-top flavours into a whole new category of ice cream.

But over the years, the brand has sadly changed, and some of that old-school magic just doesn’t feel quite the same anymore.

So we thought…What if we made our own?

Welcome to JEN & BERRY’S - our lovingly bootlegged tribute to the OG flavours such as Cookie Dough, Fish Food, Baked YUKON, and vegan Cherry Garcia.

And absolutely zero corporate boardroom meetings required. 😇

Yesterday (Saturday 29th August), our Battlefield shop turned two! Time flies when you’re working out the back of the world’s smallest ice cream factory…

In the last year, we’ve survived a broken compressor on our pasteuriser (💸💸💸), installed ANOTHER air conditioning unit (🥵), commissioned a cute ice cream cart (get in touch to book it!), organised a super fun ice cream tour around Glasgow in the dead of winter, jumped on the Heated Rivalry bandwagon with Ilya and Shane-inspired flavours, had a retro week featuring old-school favourites like Tutti Frutti, Mint Chocolate Chip and Neapolitan, and collaborated with Faber Books for the launch of Dogs On Dates - just to name a few!

Thank you to every single one of our customers - from the OGs who’ve been with us since 2020 to everyone who’s discovered us more recently.

And, of course, thank you to all our staff, from those who’ve been with us since our Dockyard Social days to those who’ve joined us along the way: Zahara, Colin, Kristina, Mae, Aaron, Ellis, Toni, Jenna, Rachel, Izah, Phil, Milo and Harper. We genuinely couldn’t do this without you.

A special shout-out also goes to my husband, George, our unofficial handyman and the shop’s very own Neil Fak (à la The Bear). I definitely couldn’t do any of this without you!

Some days, I honestly can’t believe I get to make ice cream for a living. Me!? A foreigner with very little hospitality experience, especially in the UK.

Roasted marshmallow ice cream is widely credited to have been created by Greg Mahon from Greg's Ice Cream in Toronto, where it opened in December 1981; a flavour so influential that Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield (yes, that Ben & Jerry) made a point of visiting personally.

I remember the first time I tried Roasted Marshmallow ice cream from Greg's as a university student all the way back in 2001 - it started my ice cream obsession! A quintessential Canadian flavour but not so much in the UK and that's why I started making ice cream at home for myself about a decade ago, so it's a big part of why Peacock's Ice Cream exists.

Greg's Ice Cream in Toronto sadly shut in 2020 but it brings me a little bit of Canadian pride to think his legacy lives on in our wee Battlefield Shop.

Wednesday 1st July is - as you know - Canada Day and just like last year, we’ll be giving away a FREE scoop of ice cream to every Canadian. Just bring your Canadian passport!

We'll have Canadian ice cream flavours that you know and love such as Tiger Tail, Moon Mist and everyone's favourite, Butter Tart; Butter tarts have, once again, been supplied by the one and only

All you need to do is bring your CANADIAN PASSPORT. That's the blue one with maple leafs in it.

✨️ RETRO WEEK ✨️

We're going back to the 90s this week at Peacock's Ice Cream with our flavours: Neapolitan, Mint Choc Chip and long-forgotten Tutti Frutti! What's Tutti Frutti, you ask? A slightly citrus-infused ice cream base with multicoloured dried fruit pieces.

Meet Bernie and Brad, two single dogs getting by in Dog City. Bernie has just dropped out of university and Brad, working for an environmental charity, is trying not to have a meltdown about the melting ice caps. When the pair crash into one another’s lives, they em(bark) on a series of dates – including, of course, ice cream dates!

To celebrate the publication day of Luke Healy's graphic novel "Dogs on Dates", we've teamed up with Faber Books to not only recreate the flavours Bernie and Brad enjoy on their dates - such as Miso Caramel and Triple Mint Chip (mint ice cream with mint chocolate stracciatella and Aero Peppermint Bubbles) - as well as our own creation: Dog's Dinner! A marbled peanut butter and banana ice cream with dulce de leche swirls and chocolate "kibble" pieces.

Flavours are available all week at our scoop shop! "Dogs on Dates" is published by Faber Books and available on their website and at the finest of book stores too.
