The Real Wan Cafe

The Real Wan Cafe Authentic, freshly cooked, street-food from southwest China. We really believe that Southwestern Chinese food is some of the best food in the world.

The Real Wan is a family run business brought to you by Lea (really good at cooking) and JJ (really good at eating). What started with Lea recreating foods that she missed from growing up in Guiyang, turned into a project to introduce this incredible food to friends, family, and beyond. We opened The Real Wan because we wanted to be the change that we wished to see in the Glasgow Chinese food scen

e. Everything you eat here is as true to the original style and flavour that you'd find in Guiyang as we could possibly make it. Look out for our food stories on our Facebook and Instagram to be introduced to the dishes on our menu.

Thank you all best foodies for spending another wonderful weekend with us. Keeping my little shop โ€œcrowdedโ€ and cozy!
Itโ€™s a very special weekend for me, as the Chinese full moon festival is on the 21st this month. Itโ€™s sad that because of the pandemic, I wonโ€™t be able to celebrate the important festival with my Chinese family this year. Thank you all for coming to share the festival cuisine with me and keep me company. Hearing your wonderful feedbacks cures my homesickness ๐Ÿฅฐ. Itโ€™s an unique memory for me to celebrate full moon festival with all my lovely foodie guests at the real wan. Love you all and enjoy the rest of your weekend! ๐Ÿ˜‡

Have you guys ever heard about the full moon festival? Full moon festival is also called the mid-autumn festival in English.

Itโ€™s one of the most traditional Chinese festivals which has many romantic old stories and poems about it. Families will gather together on the full moon day, eating the traditional festival cuisine and watching the perfectly rounded moon in the night sky.

There are so many traditional full moon festival cuisines in China such as steamed seasoning sea bass, okra salad, lamb dumplings ๐ŸฅŸ and the most iconic dishes are moon cakes ๐Ÿฅฎ and sticky rice ball dessert ๐Ÿจ.

As the actual full moon day is on the 21st September (Tuesday)this year and the real wan closes on every Monday and Tuesday, I decided to celebrate the special festival time with you all this weekend.

I am so excited to introduce you all Tangyuan (rice ball). As this is the first time that I am introducing a traditional Chinese dessert dish in my shop. Southwest Chinese people donโ€™t eat many sweet things at all. However, this one is unique. The sweetness of this dish always reminds me of a warm family atmosphere, the rich food culture and of course, how much we love cooking for people we love!

So come and share the taste of full moon festival with us this weekend and share the sweetness with your loved ones ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿฅฐ

The Real Wan is looking for a new team member to take orders, serve food, answer customer questions, and pack collection orders.

The most important part for us is that you fit with the team: we're a close knit crew that share a common goal of introducing our amazing authentic food to Glasgow's gourmets. We form really great customer relationships and we love seeing our foodies enjoy our cooking and The Real Wan experience, so we hope you are the kind of person that thinks seeing messages come in from happy customers is the best way to have satisfaction with your work.

This role will require minimum three days per week, with at least five hours each day (i.e. at least 15 hours a week spread over at least 3 days). Flexibility in how those hours are distributed would be ideal. Experience with front of house work is essential, as you'll be often be the sole front facing staff member.

The Real Wan is looking for a new team member to assist Chef Lea with cooking Glasgow's best authentic Chinese food. You'll also learn how to cook each dish of the menu, so that in time you'll be able to take on more responsibilities in the kitchen.

Our most important requirement is that you fit with the team. We're really close, both in our working relationship and the fact the kitchen is rather small! We all work in sync with each other, keeping our stations clean and communication clear.

We also need you to love the food you're cooking, and have an interest in cooking with spices and flavours that may be unfamiliar to you.

This is role will have 20+ hours per week. While you're being trained up, you'll be on the living wage (ยฃ9.50) but after a probationary period this will be revised up.

Funnily enough, when I heard the big thunder today I thought โ€œThatโ€™s the sound of summer in my home city Guiyang. ๐ŸŒ†

Pouring rain, lightning and thunder wonโ€™t stop the Guiyang people squeeze into the street food market gazebos. โ›บ๏ธ There are certain dishes that only appear on the street tables in summer days. Cold noodles, pan fried seasonal vegetables and summery broth. ๐Ÿœ ๐Ÿฒ ๐ŸฅŸ ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿฅฌ๐ŸŒถ๐Ÿซ”๐Ÿฅข
Iโ€™ve been looking for those ingredients everywhere in Glasgow markets, as Iโ€™m just so excited to share those tastes with all you lovely foodies here. Finally itโ€™s all sorted! Bring your hungry tummies and cold beers ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿบover to and letโ€™s party ๐ŸŽŠ๐Ÿป. Just like the Guiyangnese do from the other side of the world. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ
