Bike nights - do you know why I started these? I saw a few of you struggling mentally, I saw that some just needed to get out of an evening, meet like minded people. Some I know struggle meeting others to go out on rides with.
Not many of you know but I donate and support quite a few mental health charities. One being the Bike Brew passport, as a business we paid to go into that book. Last year when Ashley came to see us, no one had heard of it. I paid willingly not because I expected a lot of bikers to turn up, but because it went to a good cause - end of. I have donated to Dave day, and their passport, again because it is a charity, from that I think we have stamped 3 books. I have charities that I make regular donations to, for personal reasons. I could go on and on but you get the gist. If you come and speak to me I will gladly tell you that I think social media etc etc has a lot to play in peoples mental health, and the lack of meeting other people out socially has a lot to do with it.
As a business owner, a lot of time, effort and cost goes into organising these. If a bike evening doesn’t go ahead, I have all the stock left, I have wages to pay. The last bike evening went ahead even though it was showers 5 mins before it started, and we had a fairly good turnout ( I didn’t make money let’s be clear about that) but do you know what? People met up, people talked, people laughed, people got out the house, it isn’t always about the money. I charge £1 for tea, coffee and bovril at these bike nights, I could charge £2.50, but I don’t-simple!! When you have someone who has struggled to scrape together enough for 2 brews come to say thank you, I know I am doing the right thing.
What I won’t tolerate is bad behaviour, nastiness, or making others feel unwelcome. I have an all welcome policy. Neither will I tolerate messages and replies like the one in the comments. If you have this attitude, stay away you aren’t welcome at all!! To threaten destroying a businesses property is disgusting!
Much love to all that support us xx
