With a heavy heart, on the 12th day of her soul's journey, we pay tribute to the inspiration behind Lungi Babas, our beloved mother and grandmother. Lalitha Sarathy Kommu passed away on 19th July 2026, within a few feet of a Ganesh Temple.
Our Amma lived a life of unconditional devotion to the people she loved, of which there were many. Nine younger siblings, her beloved husband Parthasarathy, three children and six grandchildren.
For the next year, we will be posting one free recipe on here every month, which we encourage you to try out with your own friends and family. In this way, the nourishing divine love that inspired Lungi Babas into existence will continue to weave its golden thread, throughout Frome and the wider Western world.
Food- divinely flavoured, nourishing food- was Lalitha's vehicle of love and her way of holding up the sky. Infusing love into every stirring of the pot, making every shared meal an expression of prana. And of celebration- magnifying the joys and small victories in life. In her younger days, she would treat the entire neighbourhood to her famous biryani whenever India won at the cricket.
Her dedication towards her grandchildren was another amazing blessing for the family. Despite spending her working life as a master technician for Hindusthan Aeronatics Limited (HAL), she didn’t step onto a moving aeroplane until the age of 65, where she took a solo trip across the world to London, to spend two months with her British baby granddaughters. To ensure they felt the same care and attention that she gave to her grandsons every day throughout infancy and beyond, ensuring that Bharath, Anirudh, Vishnu and Rohith always felt loved, held and fed, patiently, by her hand.
We will miss you forever but your soul can rest peacefully now Amma, together with our father. We've got it from here😉
