Hi again everyone, as the boss of 4 Seasons, I have to make serious decisions sometimes…… after 42 years in business I am really struggling to come to a conclusion regarding the choice of fish to sell to you, my loyal customers, as we go forward. We are still selling Hake at the moment which we feel is a serious contender in terms of value for money… what do I do? Do I sell cod at £10/ portion or hake at £6.50? Would you, the customer, come in once a week for hake (for example) or lessen your visits to once a MONTH (for example) for the cod???? …. To survive in the present climate, I have to make the right decisions and turn to you, the customer for an answer to this matter. Please tell as many people about this post and ask them to somehow let myself or my staff know your feelings. We feel the hake is a super substitute but under no circumstances can we allow you, the customer, to say that 4 Seasons are lowering their high standards. Thanks for reading this and if you can copy and paste it onto Facebook so we get maximum coverage and answers. Thanks Phil

Anyone any idea what the ‘damage’ could have been caused by on this 4 lb ( approx) salmon and what could have happened to its tail?

We are now on Cheshire potatoes and the fish we are frying at the moment is Hake….. we are really impressed with the taste and think you will be as well. Quite a few people have said the same…. The good thing is that we are not going to increase the price of Hake. Try it, it really is good. Phil

Just to keep you updated, we have tried a day or two on hake and the feedback has been really positive…. We are now using haddock for a few days and so far, again, the feedback is positive. Sometime next week, we will be using hake again for a few days. Haddock and cod remain very expensive to buy and thats why many chip shops are charging up to £11 per portion.. Haddock, because of the renewed demand, is now very similar in price to cod. Hake is a very popular fish in Spain and many other parts of Europe and is a lot cheaper to buy….. we feel that it is a really good alternative to cod and haddock and if we decide to stick with it for a while, we can probably sell a portion for around £6.00. As a business, we have to make sure that our customers are catered for but also to sustain our longevity. Please bear with us over this very difficult time, we will get there eventually.

Hi everyone (again), this week we have been serving haddock and although it’s nice tasting, the portions we buy are between 8 and 10 ounces and very irregular in size. Next week we will be trying HAKE which is supposed to taste very similar to cod / haddock. When we are happy that we have tried enough different varieties, we will let you know how much we can sell each one for. This again will be a major deciding factor. Personally, I really don’t think that there is much taste difference between these ‘white fish’ species and really would appreciate all your comments at this time. You can reply on here, call at the shop personally or simply ring us. We want to get this right , both for us and for you, our valued customers.

Hi again everyone. We tried po***ck last week with varying results, some were happy and some weren’t. Next week we will be serving haddock. The only trouble with these different fish is that they don’t have the ‘big flakes’ which we are used to , even though the taste is very similar. There are other species of white fish we will be trying in order to keep everyone happy, albeit a really difficult proposition. Cod is up to £130/stone now and I cut 30 portions to one stone!! This means that the selling price is getting ridiculous…… around£10/£11 per portion….. If you/we like the fish we finally decide to use , say haddock, the price should be ( at today’s market price) around £7.50 per portion. We are actually looking at slightly reducing our chip prices because we are aware that fish and chips is not a cheap option nowadays and we need to keep busy in order to survive. We are informed by all our suppliers that all chip shops are really quiet and we are no different. Hopefully, 4 Seasons can do ‘our bit’ and keep the prices as low as we can and you, the customer, can do ‘ your bit’ and remain our faithful customers. It’s going to be difficult but together we can do it!

As many of you know, the price of cod has seriously increased for lots of reasons. We have just increased our price by £1 per portion to £7. Although we are still cheaper than most fish and chip shops, it still makes fish and chips an expensive takeaway. Some shops are selling the same sized and quality fish for up to £11. There are other species of ‘white fish’ which, in our opinion, taste as good as cod and we could sell at a greatly reduced price….. round about £5- £5.50/ portion. We know there has been a lot said in the media about chip shops selling other ‘varieties’ of fish and passing it off as cod. In the next few weeks, we will be trying these and asking you, the customer, to give us your feedback. We have been here since 1984 and are well known for the quality of our fish. We will still be offering our usual cod whilst these ‘trials’ continue. Please try the different fish we will be offering and hopefully we can, together, bring the cost of fish and chips down to a reasonable price…… where our nations favourite food dish should be!!!

Yesterday we had a visit from the public health to check on how we do things and to check we are compliant with all the health and safety regulations. I have a team at 4 Seasons who take their work very seriously and thanks to their efforts, we have once again , attained the 5 star rating. Thanks to all my staff and to everyone who supports 4 Seasons. We aim to keep providing value for money food, together with the consistent quality you are used to. I am sorry to say that our prices will be increasing in the near future for reasons which we are all aware of. I have kept the prices as low as I could for as long as I could. Phil
