Good morning.

Thank you for a lovely day yesterday.

We have on special today a spaghetti bolognese, and a prawn salad. Thought id mix it up a bit. We are running out of lamb burgers. Gosh they are popular, so I will be back at the butchers at the weekend to pick up our special order of them. They are made for us.

My heart is braking slowly, keizer the older gsd has degenerative lumbosacal stenosis. Basically he's losing control of his back legs, feeling and toilet issues. He's the one with the wheelchair. Yesterday he was not into walking very much and must have been in some pain, despite his painkillers.

Giving him the wheelchair was a life saver, but looking at him yesterday, i wonder how long he has left. He is coming up to 13. Old for a gsd..he's such a lovely boy. It seems so unfair. His granddaughter Breeze has hip dysplasia, typical of the breed, but is doing well shes now 11. Again old for the breed.

They are so much part of our lives. Its so sad we dont have dogs for long.

I sat outside last night in the sun.
Listening to the birds, watching the butterflies and house Martins.

The parakeets came for a visit too. It was a beautiful evening. House Martins dancing high above, they are quite amazing to watch. Butterflies landing so close. Flattering here and there. They dont land for long. Sunbathe for a minute or two, then off they go again. Busy little things. The bees were out too, hopping from one buddleia to the other. All was lovely and peaceful
Then loud music started screams and shout and that was it for me.

Looking forward to later, when the church bells ring out on their Thursday practice. They may be practicing, but they dont probably realise that some are enjoying those peels. It adds to the ambience of the evening.

Its time for me to.make the bolognese sauce. So I will leave it there. I will get time to sit on tje veranda I think, we a lovely coffee. Cappuccino is my go to.

The bread pudding went out the door as quick as i took it out the oven. Ive run out of sultanas, so no.more to.be.made until after the weekend, when I can buy some more.

See you later.

Good morning

Its been a bit cooler in the mornings, but the veranda is still being used everyday. We do have shade there if you need it, by the way of parasols.

We were having a debate yesterday
Given the dry ground conditions and the dry grass turning brown, would you still mow it? 😅. I asked a farmer friend and he said no. What do you think?

We were also discussing my phone. It takes me over an hour to speak to EE about it not working and I get suggestions like, "log every call you dont get". If i knew that, i could probably predict the lottery numbers!

I think the next form of attack will be an email to someone a bit higher up. I cant get passed the numpties! If I send it away again, despite trying to save the data on it, it gets wiped and you can guarantee some of it is lost. So im not doing that, this time.!
So apologies again, if i dont reply straight away. My laptop is a back up for social media, but not for calls or WhatsApp messages.

Hope is currently wandering around the garden. She's off lead and quite funny. She pops her head into the tearoom, looks at me, presumably to check im here, does t get too close then runs off again. She doesnt want me to put her on her lead, which I dont really do until the hates are open. She is funny. Its like a game to her.

I find her a great comfort. She might be difficult to recall because shes deaf and she might jump as you walk up to her and bark until she knows it is you due to her blindness, but she is quite amazing and loving. A great comfort and I can take her anywhere. Its rare we are apart.

I decided to go for my own dog. (We've always had dogs as a family) but given Mark's illness, (we dont live in the same place) , shes a great companion and comfort. We bonded pretty quickly and I understood her disabilities so worked with her until she knew me well and always returned to me. Checks were I am, if we are out and about off lead and sort of comes back! When I need her to. Except around the house and tearoom!😅

She alleviates the lonliness, shes non judgemental and stabilises me. I know she is a dog, but I always worry about her, where she is, what shes doing if shes running around in the garden but feel at peace when shes home with me. I cant help but wonder where she is right now as I cant see her, but she needs that little bit of freedom and as long as all the gates are shut around the various gardens, I know shes safe. Or rather I know the bords are safe.😁

When shes in the tearoom, shes working. Often sleeping, but if she doesnt sense someone needs her, she sleeps. Trust me, off lead, shes fast, mischievous. Not the laid.back mutt she shows in here.

If youve thought about having a dog, yes, they can be tying, but dont hesitate. Go for a rescue, so much love from them. That's all we have ever had. Rescues. Im not sure without Hope how I would have survived so far, with the loss of the old Mark and the discovery of the new personality changing new one. She keeps me grounded.

There is talk about another heatwave. Apparently we are supposed to be getting it too. Not so sure. 1st August or there abouts.. i hope not. It can be devestating for some and animals in particular are suffering.
Keeping pets cool is a nightmare, let alone farm animals and wildlife. I leave water out everywhere. Ive even seen some wasps drinking out the pond on the veranda. I dont really welcome them, but leave them be whilst they drink.

Right, time to find Hope and bring her in for the day.

See you later

Good morning.

I escaped for a couple of hours yesterday, to gwt some things for the tearoom.

My phone as usual was playing up, I dont get the Internet at times. (Trying to get that fixed is a bit of a nightmare.) So i dont get messages. My phone will not make calls and often doesnt take them. If people leave a message, I get them 3 days later. So please dont think i dont answer. I will when I eventually get the message. Its very frustrating, but on a Sunday, quite refreshing as Hope and I can disappear for a while and no one can get hold of us. Peace! Which is great, providing g nothing g goes wrong g at home.

This morning I seem to have a better signal. I run on a mobile WiFi. Silly really, when I have a phone. I just dont get the time to soe d 2 hours a day talking to EE for them to ask.me to log when I miss calls. How do I know? The shop is quite helpful but they dont seem to communicate with each other. The shop have seen and experienced the problem with my phone, but the HQ dont seem to listen to what they say. I have a smarty sim as well but the signal is awful here. Infact anywhere. So again, apologies.

The bread pudding is soaking at the moment, so should be ready for opening. Once its gone, its gone this week. Already 3 orders. Not sure what will be left today.

I have the old fashioned summer berry puddings in at the moment . Portioned with a bit of cream is very yummy. The old fashioned one with bread.

Ive a lot of DIY, but getting nowhere fast. Where is the time going? Im exhausted before I've begun! 😆 i could do with a team of labourers for a week or two and most of it will get done....i think. When your on your own and so full of jobs to do, you dont know where to start or even have the right tools. Loppers, I mean, who took my tree loppers! Chain saws, why dont they start and strimmers, why are they so heavy! Ive got an electric one, but even with an extention, im limited. Ive got a ramp to finish, very frustrating that one, a caravan to demolish and trees to cut. Shingle to buy and lay in the driveway and around the kitchen garden and two fridges to dispose of. One is too big for the council to take! So how am I supposed to get rid of that! What is it, with fridges. Most are cycling free now, but tou cant get rid of them! Now you have to ring up the top, to even book in to take normal rubbish. Ive no tine to predict when that is going to happen, as things always pop up and get in the way! Arghhh....my hair will be falling out soon.

Im a bit overwhelmed by it all at the moment. The off line phone is feeling more welcoming at the moment.😅

It will soon be time to overhaul the kitchen when everything comes out and is scrubbed with fine brushes
You know the pipes behind everything, the nooks and crannies, the hinges. The walls, the ceiling, the lights, the window edges, just everything. I think that is going to be the bank holiday at the end of August. Everything is moved so we have to close at that time. I mean yes of course, things are cleaned everyday, but this is is the nitty gritty stuff. Every edge, every bolt, every screw! Oh joy! See, im overwhelmed.

I think i will just stick to baking today.🤣

Its easier and less complicated.

Im exhausted thinking of all that! Im drowning i think! 🏊‍♀️

Right, let's go for the weighing of the fruit for the bread pudding.

See you later.

Good morning.
Thank you for a lovely Saturday. Kayleigh and Harry ran the noshery like clockwork. Lots of laughs, lots of giggles, lots of chat and lots of chill out time.

Ive had a request to make more bread pudding. ( i did one last week as an order.) Whilst im making it, does anyone else want some. I will make one for the tearoom as a tray bake so it can be sliced as a nice portion. I dont make them often, im not sure why! When I worked at markets and shows, they were always the first cake to sell out.

I got my camper back. Had to have a bearing and hub replaced as the bearing had widened the hub and was dancing all over the place. The difficulty was, as shes 26 years old, getting the right hub for her. She has smaller wheels, 15 inch rather than 16 inch so took its time and had to come from abroad. Actually it was only a couple of weeks. So Hope and I went on a venture in her yesterday. Finding quiet walks, uninterrupted and somewhere nice to park. We managed it and spent a lot of time, relaxing, walking and picking samphire.

You have to be careful.picking it. Not to disturb the roots. It has to be cut rather than pulled. Its a nice addition to fish dishes and veg. Perhaps a side for the cottage pie special I have on today. 🤔.

Ive got addicted to the app 'whatnot'. Don't! Its very easy to get addicted and you really have to be careful what your doing.

Its a live auction site, run by a lot of different people. You have to watch the postage. You pay once or twice for the postage and usually, if buy off the same person, the rest is free up to 8 or 9 items.pn the same auction, i hasten to add. Then you pay again. You can buy just about everything. Old, new, mystery.....I've bought a few things, but it can go wrong.

I bought a reasonably priced, new laptop a week ago. On Friday, the parcel arrived and with trepidation I opened it. My laptop is running very slow and as a speed typist, its frustrating. Its old. I used it when I was teaching. So its getting on a bit. So a new one was in order.

So, the first thing I took out the box, was a water bottle! I didnt order that. Then a very large plush Disney stitch! I definitely, didn't order that. Inside was a delivery note for someone in Sunderland. Her parcel was the cost of £19. I bet she was excited when she recieced a laptop and a powerbank!

The one thing i needed more than anything else I ordered. It had to be wrong!

Apparently they are sorting it. Frustrating! Everything else has arrived as normal.

The post is taking sometime to arrive. They are using Royal Mail and its slow. They would be better using someone like dpd or a more reliable company. There are lots of complaints about the Royal Mail delivery, but apparently its 'whatnot' that arrange all the postage.

I kid you not, its addictive. You have been warned!

Im pushing the car boot now. Ive still not got the sign up, will do that, this week. It will be up on the A52.

Spread it around. More sellers and more buyers. We've got lots and lots to go.

Im exhausted this morning. Hope decided her head had to be next to mine, all night. It became pretty uncomfortable at times. I woke up at one point with my head feeling like it had detached its self from my body. She had moved me so much, my head was hanging over the bed. Then it was bent to one side and then it was a heavy weight of her head on mine. Not sure what was wrong with her, bit it was not a comfortable night.

She's 42 kg of muscle and not easy to move. As she cant hear you, you cant tell her to move, you just have to push hard. Not easy when one arm is about as useless pushing weight, as a chocolate teapot. So we struggled all night.

She's been a bit needy recently
Pushing into my back tightly. I end up on the edge of a double bed that only her and I share. The other side remains empty. Yet I leave it all for her and she wants my side!

Right, cake time. Lemon and berry cheesecake gluten free is on tisay. Toffee and apple. Pistachio and cherry and one more...the bread pudding takes a lot longer than the others to bake, so not sure when that will be ready.

Time to get on.

See you later

Good morning.
A lovely day yesterday. Some amazing people called in and some great chats.

I finished the buffet on time and had some fun inventing new recipies as well as some standard ones. It does take time and thought how to make them interesting and not just run of the mill.

Many on holiday came in, we are featured in some holiday cottages and lodges and it always brings people in, in the summer. Some return the following year. So its nice to catch up!

Anne replanted some of the pots outaide on the veranda. Some were getting straggly, some just needed dead heading..i took some .pictures of them and noted how dainty one of the fushia was. Just stunning and so delicate. Isn't nature wonderful.

I sat and relaxed a while last night and watched butterflies coming back and forward. One constantly came back. I think it was a butterfly with ADHD as it could just stay still. Would fly off then come back, all evening.

Im not sure what had happened to it. I think it was a peacock butterfly? But a lot of its colour was not there, it was just a glistening brown. It stayed even after I drifted off on the sun. When I woke up, there it was.

Lots of peacock butterflies, red admirals and small white, female, if im not mistaken. A few bees came by to feed off the buddleia.

Have you ever heard of a butterfly laying eggs on flight? So there I was, laying back, watching tje bitterflies, two flew over head, frolicking and playing. Then i felt a tiny drop land just under my eye. It was a butterfly egg. How strange. I moved it onto grass as I didn't want to damage it. I goggled it and yes, some butterflies do lay eggs in mid flight, scattering them around. Ive never seen that before and I wasn't going to sit there for 4 or 5 days whilst I waited for it to become a caterpillar. 😂.

It was such a pleasure to sit a while and watch nature. An area i want to plant with wild flowers and bring back lots of nature around the pond. I already have a bit of a zen area there, but want to add more spaces from different angles, to get the full view of everything that grows and lives there.

Lots of work to do really. The extra hot weather doesnt really help as you cant really go out and work. I have to keep Hope cool too.

Talking about Hope. We are having a stand off this.morning. she refuses to have her harness on and feels its a game to run away when I get near with it. Of course being deaf, she doesnt listen to a word I say.

So I've left her walking around, feeling the freedom. She keeps coming to each door, looking in, but not coming any further. I will get her in a bit. She cant go for a walk if she doesnt get it on. Its OK whilst the gates are shut, but opening time she has to come in.

She's avoiding me like the plague. Little monkey! ❤️

Right time to get something done.

See tou later.

Good morning

A bit of a break, whilst i come and have a chat. Im in the middle of doing a buffet and the one thing I hate more than anything, is curled up.bread in a buffet. So I always make those and wraps in the morning on the day they are to go out. So as fresh as can be.

Ive just put together a mambonito salad. Great in sandwiches with a little red pesto.
Tasty and healthy. Its come out pretty well. Being a meat eater, I can honestly say, id be happy with that in a sandwich without any meat. I must do some more!

Its not all vegetarian, there is a good range of both. The ham is cooked and cooling, waiting for it to be sliced, turkey is ready, sausage rolls all done and now onto chicken.

Cakes of course came first. Lol. Can't do a biffet without cake!

I should very much finished by 11am..Just adding touches and labels. It was a late night and an early morning, so i think I should sleep well tonight. 🤞

Of course the tearoom will work around me. We may not have zac as he went home early as wasn't feeling well, which is highly unusual for him.

Will, managed so well, with a party of 14 yesterday. I watched and hoped he wouldnt crumble, and he didnt. So proud of him and how he is progressing. Mind you, he may not be a happy young man today. He was nervous about the football.last night and im sure pretty disappointed. Im not sure 😕 if we will come 3rd or 4th, but out of how many countries 🤔 im sure its a lot, we did ok.

I dont follow football, but in the middle of making fillings, I did have a glance every now and again. At one point I saw, one nil to us, the next time, i checked it was 2 - 1 to Argentina. I didn't check after that.

It feels cooler than yesterday, but saying that , it was the same, yesterday morning. Boy, did it get warm again in that kitchen. One day, we may be able to get proper air conditioning, that would be a bonus. We use a mobile older one, donated some years ago. In general it does ok, but struggles when it gets hot.

10 booked in for the car boot, so far for the 15th August. Go through ypur stuff, see what is cluttering around and if you dont have enough for a car boot, get together with neighbours and friends to have a stall. I love getting rid of stuff. It feels do good and wonder why I got them.in the first place.

We have a lot to go out ourselves. Lots of donations and things i want to get rid off which will all go into the tearoom pot.

We will have a cut off day for stall bookings on the 10th August, so we know how to set the field out. So get in there.

Rigjt, had my coffee, now back to wraps and sandwiches.

See you later.

Good morning.

I over slept this morning as my phone went flat. I was writing an email fell asleep and the phone went flat. Thought it was a bit light when I woke up. Thank heavens for Alexa.

So much to do and little time to do it!

Another lovely day yesterday ☺️

Must admit, its easier when its cooler. The kitchen was so much nicer to work in.

Im just setting up to start a buffet. The cooked things will be in the oven today and the rest finished for the morning, for it to go out at lunchtime on Thursday. They do take some work, but I love inventing, new flavours and different designs without going over the top. When I do a buffet all the money raised goes onto the tearoom pot. There is not much profit when you look at the time and ingredients cost, and although stressful to get everything done on time and fresh, it looks good, tastes good and every little helps!

Motivation this morning is lagging a bit, but that's because of late night paperwork and over sleeping 😴

Have you met Kayleigh yet? She's been here over 4 years and what an amazing, polite, happy young lady she is. So many compliments about how she is with customers, serving, and her attention to detail. She's here on a Tuesday and Saturday.

Come and meet her and say hello. From a shy young lady who by just saying hello to, she would turn red in her face, she now oozes confidence when serving and talking to customers and I cant make her turn red anymore. 😆 despite trying. 😈

Fairly short today as I have a lot of things on my mind and things to make.

See you later

14/07/2026

Good morning. A lovely welcome back yesterday, i missed the morning as I was out talking to the butcher. He's going to make the lamb burgers for me, to the original recipe as I preferred them against the new ones. Certainly saves me some time.

So we are adding to the choice of burgers. Yes our steak burger with lots of different toppings, but added is the mint lamb burger as a permanent fixture. Also, tomato sausage burger, with piccolo tomatoes and brie, a very tasty addition, pork and black pepper with a caramelised onion topping with or without a mature cheddar, all served on pur beautiful swirl bun.

Of course you can change your toppings if you wish. Add some fries and you have a scrumptious filing meal.

Pizza is here to stay..your choice of toppings or from our own menu.

We are light on salad today, the lettuce has gone from the garden, more planted, but I will shop later to get some to tide us over.

I managed to cut the field last night, but the mower is sounding a bit knocky. So.manu new parts on and the engine although still going, is beginning to show its 20 year old age. Oh for my John Deere to be returned! 😮‍💨. There is no doubt about it, the best mower ever but the prices are now through the roof. Ho humm....i will have to keep fixing this one..bless it, it tries so hard, but the life is being drained out of it! I just cant get the cut I used to get.

So the car boot is nearing, and bits will go out today to advertise it more.

On the cake front, I did do the sour cherry, I dont know why I call it that. The cherries are beautiful, so its paired up with pistachio. The Interaction of the colours are stunning as is the taste. A toffee and apple. For regulars, that is a popular one, and tornado cake, the mousse chocolate and vanilla three teir cake, very moreish, and hopefully, provided it sets, a gf, lemon berry slice maybe. Im not on that one as yet. Just a trial.

So its cooler today, a breath of fresh air but pleasant. We can breath better today! The kitchen will not be as over bearing and I can get some cooking done.

What about sone gorgonzola and pear pasta? Perhaps .....what can I serve it with? Needs a sauce. Mmmmm..my brain is working overtime. ......damm, I forgot the carrots...that's on the list for tonight. A few cottage pies are in order. Minced steak, not minced beef, gives a better texture and a more hearty experience.

Gosh, im getting hungry. Need to have a coffee to get rid of the hunger pangs!

Time to get so.e more work done.

See you later.
