we had a great afternoon at the launch of the 2027 National Fish & Chip Awards.

A massive thank you to the National Federation of Fish Friers - NFFF and the team Trenchers Whitby Trenchers in Whitby for hosting today’s launch. It was great to catch up with so many familiar faces from across the industry.

today we visited the Middleton Food Products factory in Willenhall for a behind-the-scenes look at how some of the products we use every day are made.

one of the highlights was watching the very batter mix we use at Monster Fish & Chips Co. being bagged and prepared before it’s sent out to us.

what really stood out was the amount of quality control throughout the entire process. every batch is continually checked and tested to make sure it’s consistent, meaning every bag performs exactly as it should.

we also had the chance to visit the test kitchen and development kitchen, where new products are created, refined and put through their paces before they ever reach fish & chip shops. seeing the amount of research, testing and innovation that goes on behind the scenes was genuinely fascinating.

we also visited the Middletons paper factory and saw how fish & chip wrapping is produced. it was another reminder that consistency isn’t just about the food—it’s built into every stage of the process.

days like this remind us that great fish & chips don’t just start at the fryer. from product development and quality control to the finished packaging, every step is focused on delivering consistency.

a big thank you to Ryan and the whole team at Middletons for such an informative and enjoyable visit—we’re grateful for the experience and everything we learned. 👏

last week we were lucky enough to be in norway with norwegianseafoodcounciluk as part of the National Federation of Fish Friers - NFFF national fish & chip awards winners’ trip. 🇳🇴🐟

over a few days we got a proper behind-the-scenes look at the norwegian seafood industry. from boarding the longliner geir and learning about frozen-at-sea fishing, to visiting ode’s cod farming operation, it was a fascinating insight into the care, sustainability and innovation that goes into producing seafood.

although we proudly serve fresh north sea haddock, it was brilliant to learn more about different parts of the industry and see just how much work happens long before fish ever reaches a fish & chip shop.

our industry goes so much deeper than most people realise, and opportunities like this are invaluable for learning, sharing ideas and bringing that knowledge back into what we do every day.

a huge thank you to seafood from norway and the nfff for making this once-in-a-lifetime experience possible. we’re incredibly grateful to have been part of it. 🤝🇳🇴
