Garden update

sure all my fellow growers/gardeners out there are feeling the same frustrations mixed with joy that we are here!

The weather has been challenging this year so far and we’ve had a bunch of crops die in the cold winds - beans and peas suffered especially. On the flip side the tatties are springing up, radishes are ready to eat, broad beans and spinach are flourishing and we have an abundance of flowers

Just waking around and the place is humming with insects like it should be. There’s bees everywhere, butterflies, spiders and all those flies that we swat away and complain about but are vital parts of our ecosystem. I love all of these tiny creatures and feel so lucky to provide a place free of chemicals where they can thrive

• A SMALL ECOSYSTEM • and we don’t mean Morag…

Quick stroll around the garden this morning with Morag, in between catering tasks - catering for a group at Pluscarden Village Hall today…

May feels like it’s finally arrived, the kitchen feels too hot, the birds are singing and there’s so many gorgeous plants out; flowers, fruit trees, rhubarb the lot!

Yesterday I noticed my peas have survived the rain and I’m very excited by it!

If you got our weekly menu email you’ll know that the weather has been a concern for us, chefs and gardeners are both equally obsessed with it because it dictates the food we can grow and eat. (If you don’t get it sign up in the bio, it’s not intense emailing just an update once a week to tell you our meals, it’s no more than that but handy if you want to keep up to date on the deliveries)

We do both here, growing food and cooking and looking after this piece of land so it brings in insects, birds, amphibians the lot. Building an ecosystem with good soil and lots of inhabitants Because we need all of that to produce nutritious, organic-led food. With fingers and toes crossed more of our produce will be hitting our meals and our catering platters in the next month. 😍😋😋

Think tarragon chicken with white wine, cream and fresh garden tarragon, Venison Stovies made with , rich northern indian curries, handmade chapatis and naans, and plenty of good things to make your Friday night feel sorted and the rest of the week from your freezer.
