Beyond the Qualification — Frequently Asked Questions
Who is it for?
Newly qualified and early-career dog groomers who want support putting their training into practice. It’s also suitable if you’ve been grooming for a while but still lack confidence or want to improve particular skills.
Do I need to have trained with you?
No. You’re welcome regardless of where you completed your grooming training.
I’ve qualified, so why do I still feel unsure?
A qualification gives you a foundation, but working independently brings new challenges. Different coats, dogs, client expectations and styling decisions take experience to navigate. Needing guidance doesn’t mean you’ve failed.
How is this different from another grooming course?
The support connects directly to your everyday grooming work. We look at the dogs you’re grooming, the challenges you’re facing and the skills you want to develop, helping you understand what to do and why.
What options are available?
Choose from:
* Six months: structured development with an additional topic each month.
* Three months: focused learning around the “usual suspects”—common salon breeds, coat types, styles and practical challenges.
* Monthly support: book one month at a time, with the option to add further months.
Can I keep working whilst I learn?
Yes—that’s the idea. You continue earning through your grooming work while using your experience to guide your learning.
How does remote support work?
Through arranged online sessions, photo and video reviews, and practical feedback. These give us the opportunity to discuss your work, identify improvements and plan your next steps.
What is live remote training?
You groom a suitable dog in your own salon during a booked video session, while I watch, explain and guide you. You’ll need a stable internet connection and a camera position that lets me see your work clearly.
What can you help me with?
Preparation, drying, coat assessment, clipping, sc******ng, head shapes, balance and finishing. We can also work on handling, client communication and making appropriate grooming decisions, always with the dog’s welfare in mind.
Will you give feedback on my grooms?
Yes. You’ll receive constructive, honest feedback explaining what you’ve done well, what needs attention and how to improve. The aim is to help you develop your own judgement.
What if I’m embarrassed to show my work?
You don’t need to produce a perfect groom before asking for help. Showing the areas you struggle with gives us somewhere useful to start. You’ll be treated with patience and respect.
Is this another qualification?
No. Beyond the Qualification is continued training and professional support designed to build on your existing learning.
Is in-person training available?
Yes. Separate practical sessions can focus on improving techniques, exploring breeds and styles, or preparing for competitions and assessments. Message me to discuss your goals and suitable arrangements.
Can I contact you whenever I need help?
Support is provided through agreed sessions and feedback arrangements. Before booking, you’ll receive clear details of what your chosen option includes and when you can expect a response.
How much does it cost?
Message me for the current fees and a breakdown of what each option includes, so you can choose what suits your needs and budget.
How do I get started?
Send me a message telling me about your training, your current grooming work and what you’d most like help with. We can then discuss the most suitable starting point.
